girlfriend and I broke up last week. I questioned her and she said that I was too submissive and that I needed a "mistress". 
I love a women dominating me but do girls actually like sub males?

Some girls might like submissive men.
Myself, not so much. I generally prefer that my boyfriend is the dom and takes control of myself and the situation at hand. Occasionally I like to switch things up and take the reins for a bit but that doesn't involve him being submissive and giving himself up to me. I like taking the reins to tease him, have him beg for more. Not be completely compliant.

I enjoy switching it up occasionally because I'm very defiant and sometimes just feel like, "nope, you get on your knees" and sometimes it happens, sometimes it's a battle of the wills and physical strength, sometimes I lose. But some woman would definitely rather be dominate.

For girls that have become addicted to porn or have had episodes of watching it earlier in life, they would prefer dominant men because of how the woman are treated in the vast majority or those videos and they associate that kind of "woman is sexually dominated by men" with pleasure. For girls that don't like porn they may prefer a more equal experience.
