Not sure about everybody else but here's how I think about it anyway. Most guys (including myself) do not cum inside bc of the high risk of pregnancy. Besides clearly not having sex, the other more common ways to reduce that risk are birth control or condoms. I wouldn't know if someone's on birth control unless I'm told so just assume they're not. Letting me know ahead of time wouldn't automatically make me assume to cum inside though but it would make me more likey to. In my case, it just means I'll worry less about pregnancy. Regardless on whether they're on B. C. or not I'll usually want to cum inside (bc it feels much better). In your case the timing of when you told him would heavy imply that you would be okay with him finishing inside you, and he was all for it , so he did.
