In response to your primary question, I'm not sure that age has much to do with it. I think it's more about interest level.
I think it's a very risky subject to discuss, particularly if you want MMF. I think more guys would be OK with FFM than MMF and it might upset him that you're thinking about having another guy involved and maybe make him start having doubts about whether you'll cheat on him.
My opinion is that you'd be better off finding out how he feels about it in some other way rather than telling him directly that you're interested in it. Maybe say you heard someone talking about it or read an article about it or something and see what kind of reaction you get. If he says something negative about it then I think you need to just drop the subject. If he sounds like he thinks it's interesting then it's probably safe to ask whether he'd want MMF or FFM if you ever did it.
If his reaction is anything less than him saying it sounds exciting to him, then I think you should let it go. Unless you both really want to do it, I think there much more chance of it ruining your relationship than that it will go well. I've heard of cases where it caused problems even when both people thought they wanted to do it, so overall I think it's a risky thing to do.

I think FFM is a pretty common fantasy for guys. Of course not everyone is the same and it varies from person to person, but on average I think guys are stimulated visually more than women are. For a lot of guys, just seeing and touching a naked woman is exciting and so seeing and touching two naked women seems more exciting. I don't think that says anything about how the guy feels about his girlfriend/wife. He could be very happy with her but still think that having another woman involved would be more fun. I don't know for sure but my guess would be that MMF is a less common fantasy for women, but probably still not rare. For those that like the idea I'm not really sure whether that means she's not satisfied with her partner or if it's just like guys that she would think another guy would add to the fun even if she's happy with her guy. Even though I think most guys would find FFM appealing, I think most of them would not like the idea of MMF. Apparently some do, but I think most don't. A lot of guys are very protective of their sexual relationship with their partner and don't want any other guy intruding on that. It is more common as you get older, i think people start to care less what others think and more about how to have fun.
