Do you agree with this definition of a MODERN WOMAN?

The 'Modern Woman' has a job, not entry level, has done very well for herself and maintains or does not maintain a family. In the 1950's when the term first came to use, it was also a sexual saying. A modern woman can have as many romantic interests as she sees fit. The modern woman pursues affairs and is equal to the man when it comes to sexual partners. Marking the end of the 'nice girl era' in which women were only suppose to have one sexual partner as opposed to men, who could pursue interests of a sexual nature.

I don't care, women are women, their fundamental nature has not deviated nearly as much as modern trends would suggest. The socioeconomic environment into which men and women are thrown HAS changed a fair a bit, so there's a Darwinian adaptation taking place, which could look like a gender "imbalance" or something. But push come to shove, women of today will still act and think much like women of yesteryear given the right milieu. Just like how most young boys would still overwhelmingly prefer to play with toy trucks and nerf guns than to play nurse with a toy baby. Modernity is the last factor shaping behavioral modulation, and not a particularly significant one. The roots of the tree (genetic memory, cultural heritage, etc) run deeper than the branches of modernity grow high.

And women can't even agree with each other on what a "modern woman" should be. It's just a term they hear in the media and assume it must have merit. Upon interrogation it's an empty phrase that means no more or less than what the user projects into it. Its as facile as the people who reduce "traditionalism" down to a cherry-picked slice of 1950s white picket fence Americana. People erect their own gated concept of "modern womanhood" and then build a fortress around it to prevent any other cross-pollination of competing ideas to encroach on it. And then they can't figure out why men aren't flocking far and wide to celebrate "modern women" in their totality.

Because the fact remains I could take any two "modern women" at random from a crowd, and within minutes identify more differences than similarities in their worldview, conduct, values, social prestige, appearance, sexual proclivities, and so on. There are as many varieties of "modern women" as there are WOMEN on Earth at any given time.

We should cease to focus on such petty definitions and delineations, and instead use our eyes and ears and brains to actually OBSERVE the women we interact with in our daily lives. Observation is the only way to assess character, and character belongs to the domain of the singular. There's no handy blueprint that applies to swathes of people. Every woman, every man must be observed, as they turn up, here and now, without interference from preconceptions about "what modernity expects of their gender". Modernity is a concept, it only exists because we decide to give it value. Show me a "modern dog", or a "modern dungbeetle", or a "modern bonobo". Nature has no use for these made up concepts. We seek to separate women into groups like "modern" vs "traditional" because it gives our hunter gatherer brains an illusion of compartmentalisation, and thus an illusion of control. We want an easy shorthand to separate the "good" potential partners from the "bad" ones to be avoided. But there is no shortcut for actual observation over time. We should stop trying to put women into boxes, abd start switching on our own senses and our own intuition and our own cognitive faculties, and let observation be our guide in which women to pursue and which to withhold from pursuing. Because let's be real, that's what men REALLY wanna know when they start asking about "modern women" right...

I wouldn't be quite so black and white about it. But yes, there's a lot of truth in this question. I wouldn't saddle women with this completely though. a lot of it can be attributed to lack of strong male role models and disintegration of the family structure. To quote Chris Rock "A father has one job when it comes to his daughter and that's to keep her off the pole". So many women raised without fathers has NO REFERENCE for a healthy relationship with men. And doubley worse if she's born to a single mom, she's probably been fed a steady diet of "all men are dogs", from the minute she could crawl.

I think this issue is more a social issue than an economical one. Though I will say this, women do need to understand when you compete with men for livelihood, you take away his potential earnings. And that's fine, that's fair game. But you don't get then to demand he make as much as he did before. Anyone with a basic understanding of economics can tell you that's not feasible.

Honestly I think a lot of feminism from the suffragettes to feminists in the 60s even to today were greatly influenced by privledged feminists and male feminists who came from wealthy families and attended ivy league colleges and viewed the plight of the average woman through reading Jane Austen and Emily Bronte novels. When the truth is women have always worked whether it have been in the past in the fields or in factories or as servants. Unmarried women in the past always had sex the problems came when she got pregnant and had to get the father to marry her or any guy to marry her

Feminists took credit for women working, having more sex, marrying later and making more money when the real truth is that it was the availability of birth control and safer abortion that allowed women to be more promiscuous in the 50s, 60s and 70s and this not marrying the first guy to knock her up. Women started making more money as more jobs became less labour intensive thus allowing women to work jobs that were traditionally done by men. Even now after automation made all the jobs women used to do in offices redundant we are starting to see more women in other male jobs that have been getting easier over the years to the point its just mostly button pressing, a good example is the amount of women that now drive lorries for a living.

So far from what feminists like to think of women's lives in the past, most women weren't like Ms Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters worried about finding a wealthy husband so they could live comfortably or Ms Anne Elliot who at 27 finds herself past marriageable age unless Captain Wentworth will marry her no, for most women life was a hard struggle of emptying the shit and piss filled chamber pots of Ms Bennet and Ms Elliot, maybe being sexually assaulted by the Lord of the Manor and kicked onto the streets when they get pregnant, or toiling side by side in the fields with her husband baring their kids a long the way, or working the loom in the mill with noise so loud you'd go deaf.

There is still a double standard, and a modern woman needs to protect her interests when it comes to relationships with a male. Most men are not interested in a woman who has "lived like a man" sexually. He considers her lacking in morals and a poor choice for a partner. He supposes if she's had that amount of experience, he will look inexperienced to her and she'll leave him.

Of course, this is sexual prejudice. I'm just reporting. It's not my belief.

If a man who's flitted around can settle down and be faithful, certainly a woman can. But religious people and the general public don't see it this way.

Why women are judged so differently is a mystery. But there it is.

@coachtanthony In America sure that's a good definition of the modern woman but from the Hippi Era and onwards America has become an increasingly degenerative country full of greed, sloth, envy, ignorance, corruption, crime, drug abuse, etc. A country that loves to point fingers at other countries and stick its fat unwanted nose into others business instead of cleaning up its own disgusting filthy backyard***.

You go to many countries in Europe and you will find that women have jobs, they are respected, etc. But they behave like decent respectable women. They don't dress like whores. They don't act like prostitutes. They'd rather be caught dead than acting like American or council house - usually uneducated, unemployed welfare bottom of the rung in society - British women.

My biggest gripe with Modern Woman phraseology is the effect it has on Family and Abortion as it asserts the Traditional Woman as lesser or lacking in some Form.

The Modern Woman is perceived as one who wants and will have it all, “like a man does”, without the constraints of Family and Children which get in the way of the Wants and both societal expectations and demands.

Modern Woman, most often Liberal, is mostly driven by Government, Business, Sexual, and Fashion sectors within our culture, whereas Traditional Woman, most often Conservative, has elements of the “modern woman” in her life with the greatest focus being driven by Familial related attributes and concerns.

I, personally, appreciate and admire a Traditional woman as there is no other being on this earth that can get more done well, for the holistic good of society, simultaneously than her.

Okay. It takes two people to have a sexual affair. Many times both low life men and women feel ashamed of their actions and pin it on the other.

Many people are in bad relationships because they don’t pursue love, companionship; a best friend, etc. They pursue their sexual lusts, money, and/or a number of other things.

Especially with a rise of narcissism many people both male and female seem to only care about their own wants and needs and their partner is there only to serve them. Because they’re so special and they’re all this and that.

About the only part that is right is that they are doing finically well for themselves and that they have as many sexual partners as guys if not surpassing them in that area the latter of which isn't a good thing.
