  • You will hear many cite studies or express their opinions that social media, internet and porn have made people less interested in direct physical contact, and actual sex in general.

Those factors might well be true for some people's views, but there's a lot more going on beyond just blaming technology and porn.

First and foremost, porn has been around since before my grandfather was a teenager. Porn has been around since the camera and motion pictures were invented. If one wanted to, one could also say types of porn existed since painting was invented, but I digress.

Secondly, the internet. I was a teenager when dial up internet was starting to reach people's homes in the 90s. By the time I was in my 20s and in college, torrents and p2p file sharing was all the rage since the internet started getting faster and more robust content was more accessible.

Porn was always there and just as easy to access back in the 90s/2000s as it is today. You just went about getting it differently.

In the 80s and earlier decades, you had VHS and movie rental shops everywhere that had a curtained area where all the adult stuff was hiding. You had magazines like Mayfair, Hustler, Penthouse, Playboy and so on.

Porn isn't anything new and neither is the internet. Just because there's more porn sites out there, doesn't mean it's any less or more easier to access than before. The only difference is download speeds got faster and thus, video quality improved. Nothing more. All the fetishes and genres out there today are nothing new.

So what's the underlining factors of fewer people in the younger generations not having sex?

Well, for starters, there's been the whole MeToo movement. Don't get me wrong. Sexual assaults and rapes should be called out and those who commit such acts should be dragged in front of a court and judged for a fitting punishment if guilty... However there have been some who have hijacked or manipulated the movement to call out every guy who's ever done anything slightly remotely wrong. There's been articles, news reports and social media posts going on about things ranging from actual sexual assaults and rapes, to things like "Unwanted Advances" like a guy asking for a number or proclaiming their interest in a girl. They in turn get portrayed as perverted creeps and shamed on the internet regardless of what truly happened.

There's also cases where something sounded like a consented sexual encounter between two people, only to later have the story come out that the girl felt pressured or didn't really want to have sex and the guy ends up as a bad guy and shamed on the internet.

There have been many guys who've literally lost their jobs, their careers, their families, over such claims. Businesses don't want to have any involvement with the accused and get tossed away, without any legal convictions or their day in court to prove guilt or innocence.

Look, maybe some of these guys were jerks. Maybe they did do what they were accused of. Maybe some of them got exactly what they deserved. But these all have a far greater impact towards the new generations.

The message to the new gen is clear: Anything you do or say to the opposite sex can and will end up being used against you down the road. It can be a couple of years, 10 years or 30 years later, but eventually you asking a girl out, or you having sex with someone, regardless of consent, may end up being brought back up later down the road and be explained in a totally different context to what you remember happening.

    The consequences are significant.

Then there's the whole dating scene. Expectations of your social status, what you can offer a partner. An actual relationship. Money, meeting families, drama with their friends, potential STDs, pregnancy. Then there's the actual act of sex. Seeing it and hearing it in porn is one thing. What about the smells and such?

I can see how some would just not want to even bother with all of it.

    • Oh don't forget about the incels and feminists who pretty much hate the other gender for one reason or another... There's a muti prong amount of reasons why they're not sexing it up these days. In the long run, unless humans start inventing reliable robot butlers and maids to raise a bunch of kids so humans can just screw one another to keep humanity alive, we're gonna see a quick reduction in the global population. We've peaked as a global society. Now we're merely going to level out... Drastically mind you.

  • I can tell you the men certainly are. The women are not. The women are all sleeping with a small number of men, the rest of the men get nothing. The women can't find any men that meet their ridiculus standards and are willing to settle down with them, most the men can't get a girl, and when they do she usually cheats on them.

  • I do believe that those under 30 years of age are having less sex and are sex-negative compare to those other past generation. The widely available internet is decreasing the face-to-face interaction that was the only real way to communicate with one another. Freely available porn may also cause quicker sexual relief and at the same time disturb some with how degrading can be. That would be particularly true for women who watch porn and constantly seeing just how degrading sex as a woman is predominantly displayed. This could be seen as why the appeal to have sex has declined in our current generation.
