Superb Opinion

  • Moral? Fuck no! It's completely IMMORAL... What a stupid waste of police time. It's like the 'war on drugs' here... never gonna work, never gonna do what they want it to do.
LGBT people have always been, and always will be roughly 10% of the population - to start a witch-hunt to go after a portion of your population, based on? based on what exactly? You'll never 'catch' them all, you'll never 'stop' something that's part of human nature, biology, and the colorful human sexuality spectrum.
It's so counter-productive and pointless -- and yet another attempt to control things that are out of their control, and sadly a diversion or deflection from other failings in Egyptian society. They're trying to 'punish' people for something that's inherently part of them, and completely not their fault and outside of their control. It's so backward and closed minded to even entertain the notion that you can 'police' such a thing. Fuck them.
Societies are more healthy and all people benefit when everyone is more inclusive and tolerate.

  • I mean, if I'm not wrong then in the USA many agents fake being minor teen girls to arrest men who chat with them because if statutory rape or pedophilia. So is we keep the debate if LGBT rights aside and think of this way if baiting by itself, maybe it's not that different from what's done in the USA, you know what I mean?

    • Baiting people to arrest them for just being who they are is not the same as baiting someone who molests children? right?

    • Hence I said 'if we keep the debate of LGBT rights aside', because remember that ultimately they are also seen as criminals in Egypt.

    • Yes they are seen as criminals so it basically comes down to individual morality. Any country can make a law doesn't mean it's moral to most. Women get treated poorly over there too which is another issue in itself but I digress. Just taking the temperature of GAG on this one.

  • Shrugging.

I can't really evaluate Egyptian society. I just know what would be considered to be wrong in America. We had a couple of Egyptians here. But they only talked about politics and life in America. They never talked about the issues within their own society.

    That was disappointing.

    • Amen brother!

  • How the fuck did 30 % vote yes? The state invading your privacy and being bigoted on top of that how is that moral? Is it just because they're gay? I don't understand. I wonder how this poll would look if it was gun owners. Do people even have principles anymore? I'm confused.

    • Really does show who is who and what is what.

  • Damn, I misread the title and thought it said "immoral" so I voted wrong. (I voted yes but meant no, it's not moral.)

2/3 voted it's not right, but that 1/3 is disturbing. Gag is definitely a global site.

  • According to my personal morals, no at all. According to my country's laws and morals, nope. According to Universal Declaration of Human Rights, I highly doubt so. According to the morals of their society, it's moral.

Who knows. In the future it could change. Morals aren't fixed and the ideology of a country changes over time.

  • No. Morals like laws vary from place to place. We might not like their views on lgbt but it's their country and they have the right to choose what morals they wish to live by. Given the amount of hated lgbts face in the west we have no right to criticise.

    • Yeah we do.

    • Compared to other counties the gay community has it made here in the west. Yes they get scrutinized for their way of life. But they aren't being hunted down and murdered or imprisoned like they are in other counties. In a way its morally right for Egyptian authorities to do what they are doing because of their social structure and religious beliefs. But for those of us that don't adhere to the same religious beliefs we know its morally wrong. In conclusion it's all perspective to what morals and beliefs you follow. I'm not condoning what they are doing in any way

  • No! I clicked the wrong one! (accidentally clicked yes). But I don't think them using dating apps is right. But from what I've looked up, being LGBT+ in Egypt isn't illegal. But it says that homosexual acts in public are illegal. I'm not sure if they're doing this because they think it's an offense and considers it a public act of indecency or what. But from more I've read there's a lot going on over there since some think LGBT is bad and others don't. So that creates a whole bunch of problems for LGBT people, especially with police.

  • Yes, they are obeying the commandments of God.

Homosexuality is a sin, and both the Bible and the Koran says to put them to death.
