Yeah, it’s rude. The reason might not be obvious to you if you’re asking, so don’t take it personally. It’s just that asking for a rate is generally a way to deal with insecurities. People want to know if someone appreciates them. Most people already have enough experience with rejection, so one more negative opinion is not useful information. You might have thought you were adding value by sharing your negative opinion, but probably you didn’t at all, and you made someone feel bad. Just remember that negative opinions are already widely available.
