  • The brain is wired to repeat what it sees and hears; it’s a major part of how humans learn. And the more senses you get involved in the learning process, the more consistent the message, and the more often you see it, the more likely you are to be influenced by it.

That’s just one more reason why consuming pornography is toxic—it’s a short jump from consuming something in porn to desiring it in real life. And sometimes the things you see can really hurt yourself and other people.

  • Some rapist, murderers and pedophiles have gone on record saying porn was a heavy influencer in their choices.

  • I would say increase a pedo/rapist is just going to grow even more hungry when watching child porn/Rape porn.

    • That makes sense.

  • Now, I am not basing this on research or anything. But personally, I think it has zero impact. None whatever

  • I think the person's predilections beforehand determine that. Like gun ownership, someone who will own it responsibly will likely never break the law there. Someone with a fucked up predilection will see that as an outlet. Just like porn. Fantasy, feeling more or less power makes people more or less of who they already were.

  • I'm not quite sure what the effects of long term porn viewing can have on an individual. From what I've gathered, it does increase sensitivity and the constant dopamine fix might eventually lead to an overall decreased sexual drive (negative feedback mechanisms from overstimualtion).

That being said, I think this question has certain commonality with others such as "Do videogames increase violent crime?" Or "Does strict parenting encourage behavioural disorders?" among many others. I think larger studies would be required for a definitive answer but in my personal opinion it has no effect whatsoever.

  • I would suggest that it can be dangerous to those with certain susceptibilities and perversions. Ted Bundy believed that it was very much a fuel to his fire. He was a psychopath though and that's very relevant. Well balanced people don't get easily turned by porn or violent imagery.

  • I think it could. It depends on the person. The more they obsess on it the worse it gets. But in my mind, anything like that is risky it's like gambling but planning not to be an addicted gambler. It's a tough think to control especially for some people
