Does being a virgin for a long time cause health issues?

I saw on tik tok a girl left a comment that her 22 year old virgin friend went to a gynecologist because she had health issues. The gyneocologist was shocked that she was a virgin at that age and told her that she should hurry and have sex because not having sex will cause serious health issues. She said her periods won't be painful if she has sex (Sounds more like a sex positive activist than a doctor lol)
I am 30 year old virgin and I am as healthy as one can be. My periods are absolutely painless and they happen on the exact same day. Yet I see many women who have been sexually active since 13-15 but still have paintul periods.
Yes I have gone to different gynecologists. All of them said I have no issue. I even asked if I should take sex hormone analyses (testosterone, estrogen). I was told it is meaningless as everything is fine with me.

  • Every Woman every body is different and I think how you handle the situation could have a physical condition with it he could have more of a mental condition I would think because of all the things that you must think and go through Defending Your reasoning me for being a virgin.
I mean it's nobody else's business except for yours but I could just imagine what a person goes through.
To be honest with you I don't have a clue I'm not a doctor I know for me and my body did I have to come that's all there is to it because of all the pleasures that come with it weather be through sex or masturbation or with the person that I absolutely love doing it with there are so many endorphins that are set off when everything is just right and that's what I would think is when you hold back for so long I would think it was just start eating at you in a whole different world different way but that's only my Truth for me I don't know about anybody else
To me you're kind of like a hero because a lot of women a lot of girls that are virgins read what you say you're like a mentor somebody to look up to and I would be proud of that if I was you but only you know down deep how bad it is affecting you only you know that and I would say since you're asking this question is it started to put a toll on you I hope you okay

  • Yeah, I agree with @OlderAndWiser

I’m no expert, but I’ve never heard a woman having health issues specifically because she’s a virgin.

If you’ve talked to experts and they say you’re fine, then you’re good.

I think that woman you mentioned had other issues causing concern, but not because she was a virgin.

  • sex can help with cramps (well, orgasms do), but pain isn't due to sex or no sex.
but literally no overall negative or positive to have sex
we literally live up to 16 years for most of not having any sex ( not going to lie, i feel people need more hobbies if they're having sex earlier) with no negative effects.

  • Oh my God what a load of garbage! Yeah that lady has an agenda. What about how unhealthy it is for women to have a whole bunch of different guys running through her. UTIs, bacterial infections and a lot of rough sex can be harmful also.

  • That is so sad it is funny, totally BS. I once had a guy tell me he had to have sex with me, or he'd die... yeah he is still alive and didn't get any.

  • That’s really out of place for a obgyn to say, someone should report that behavior depending on if she works at a clinic at the least leave a review, that’s complete misinformation she is spreading.

    • It is horrible when you realize their agenda. They pressure virgins to lose their virginity by scaring them that they will end up with having serious issues.

    • They also really push birth control saying it will help with acne and hormonal balancing, which isn’t always the case, actually the exact opposite sometimes. I would see if she could find a more holistic obgyn if that’s even a thing, I know it is for doctors and I find them to always be more caring.

  • Sounds like nonsense to me.

  • That was not the gynecologist. It was the cleaning person cleaning the office when she came in and saw a chance to check her out and was hoping to be the one to "help" her by taking her viginity.

  • notthat I ever heard of. however, if you don't have babies I've heard that associated to tumors on the uterus. fact or fiction... not sure.

  • No, it does not. Did the “doctor” ever make it into medical school? They need to be reported and monitored.

  • I don't think so, looks like she was virgin-shamed by a gyneocologist. :)

  • No real physical harm when staying a virgin.

  • It's nonsense, I'm a virgin and healthy as ever. I didn't have to worry about catching a disease or getting pregnant even if using protection (still a chance) from sex with a random guy ever, so being a virgin has been good for me.

  • Your very attractive by the way! x

  • No, it does not. It prevents STDs.

  • I don't think so. If this question has been worrying you the best course of action would be to talk to your doctor. They could give you a defenitive answer and you would be able to pick there brain with any follow up questions!

  • That sounds like a load of crap. It is so far out there that I have my doubts it is even a true story. A doctor telling a woman that being 22 and a virgin can cause health issues and get sexually active as long as possible.

You are 30 huh? What is your plan?
You are against having sex and you plan to live a full life without sex?
Are you looking for the right guy to marry and you haven't found him yet?

    • Maybe that girl made that whole story because she lost it at a young age and wanted to convince herself she did the right thing. And yes

    • I'm not saying I know it is a lie or made up but that really sounds like a bizarre thing for a doctor to tell a patient.

  • There is a lot of dumb stupidity floating around on TikTok. As for the question, you can be celibate your whole life and you would still have no sexual health issues

  • My great aunt died of age 89, never had sex. A first cousin once-removed of mine who will turn 81 this year, never had sex.

If your friend (and you) are comfortable with the idea of never having kids (which is 100% ok), then who cares how often - if any - you have sex. Those alleged health issues are bullshit.

    • I want to have kids. I never once thought about not having.

    • Well, if that's the case, start having sex soon, us guys have the advantage of having kids in our 60s, but women once enter their 30s, possibilities decrease, and into the 40s is really risky

  • I have never heard of virginity causing sex problems. I just did an internet search, and found some interesting things. Here is one example of several similar findings...

Delaying sexual activity may “create health risks by impeding development of the emotional, cognitive, and interpersonal skills that are crucial to satisfactory sexual functioning and general well-being.” SOURCE: American Journal of Public Health, January 2008.

  • Mental health issues, perhaps. Loneliness. Depression.

  • My current girlfriend withholds sex from me and by the time she gives me some I feel like I am a virgin again , so I agree it can cause Health Issues cuz I become a moody bastard when I don’t get sex lol

  • Virginity is not harmful for a woman. Sex with a woman does have health benefits for a man in that it does seem to reduce the odds of prostate cancer. However, it is not necessary to begin at a young age.

  • I would not see that gyn in the furure.
