Does family planing really work?

people have told me family planing is 99 % effective but it seem crazy that something so simple would be so efficient (and why is it not well know? unlike condom and pills).
I'm a Christian so using any type of birth control are forbidden but I don't wish to be pregnant all the time either (don't really have the money for it).
So I'm wondering does family planing really work?

  • You should correct the tittle to "natural family planning". Using condoms is also family planning...

It's not 99% effective. You can't even measure it like that, because it depends a lot on the woman's body and also on her discipline. Some women have very regular and predictable periods, so NFP may work very well for them. They just need to remember not to have sex on certain dates. Many christian couples do this and end up with 2/3 children (accidentally or on purpose).

But if you have irregular periods, you may think you're avoinding sex during ovulation and you're not ovulating at all, so you may get pregnant. Sometimes, women release 2 eggs in the same month and at different times, so you always have that risk, even though that risk varies from woman to woman.

Basically, it's a good idea if you are in a long term committed relationship and you're not eager to have kids, but if you accidentally get pregnant it's fine. If you really don't want to get pregnant, get a more predictable form of birth control.

    • Condoms isn't family planing... and the use of it is forbidden by the church. My period are pretty regular. So it work pretty great but not 100 % effective. Thanks for the answer :)

  • It does work If you track your ovulation correctly and avoid sex on those days or pull out.

    • Pull out is forbidden by the church

  • Depends on the people & how committed they are to the plan. Sometimes what you plan for could happen earlier than expected or after. Your actions dictate how the plan unfolds

    • It's quite complicated then

    • Yeah, unfortunately it is. That’s why you’ll hear on average many women say they want a child after they hit their 30s into mid 30s but get pregnant before hitting 30. Life does what life does, continues to move forward

    • Yes, if is it supposed to happen then it's going to happen

  • I have never seen anything in the Christian bible that speaks against birth control.

    • The pope have forbidden the use of it and I'm a Catholic Christian so maybe the rules are different?
