Does marriage benefit men or women more?

I think it benefits children the most but I'm curious what y'all think between the man and women. Personally I think it benefits women more.

  • I think that even in the old days, it's been always been considered a special woman's day. Taking aside the divorce rates, it was never a benefit for a woman if she got pregnant by a boyfriend or she remained in a relationship for many years without a child. That's a disadvantage for a woman.
If he gets knocked up by a boyfriend and he leaves, she's another single, unmarried mother and reduces the dating pool for her to meet a quality man.
If she's someone's forever girlfriend and no kids, it's bad for her. She wasted her market value and now has a limited time to find a suitable partner.

    • I'm afraid the only way a woman has won both in the old days and today is through marriage, no other way.

  • Marriage does not benefit anyone except the firms that make money out of it. It doesn't make you that much richer, live much longer, much happier, stop break ups, etc. It is a man made institution to try and satisfy the whims of religious organisations. No place for it in 21st century. It is outdated.

    • I agree. As a man in 2022 marriage in the west is a nightmare. Why would I risk losing half my assets, having to pay child support, or alimony.

    • And I'm not even religious so why would it matter to me.

  • in the modern age of western culture the legal marriage system is outdated and broken. to were it mostly benefits governments and lawyers in the long run. if people really need a piece of paper and/or rings to prove their love to each other. then why not go for a spiritual marriage instead of a legal one. for those who are religious it would serve as them being married under the eyes of their region. without having to make it legal or get government approval.

  • It SHOULD be equal. A relationship that is one sided is a path of misery for someone. It depends on the marriage. Some marriages are one sided towards one or the other

  • In old-fashioned terms, it's a trade. She gives him sex in exchange for his financial support and protection. It's become more even (and confusing) now, but that's what it is fundamentally. Hook up culture is worse for women.

  • It's women who get fucked and dumped, so it benefits women more.

  • People who wanna stay together and want a sense of security in their relationship, marry. Those who dont want to , dont need to. Not everything is business deal that someone has to have a profit or loss out of it.

  • When someone is measuring such an intimate thing in such an analytical and practical way it does not bode well for their marriage.

  • People don't marry for the benefits. Well... some do... but those are some awful people😂

  • How?

    • Because it locks down men (assuming they stay married like they're supposed to) to stay and provide security and a second income. And being a single mom is one of the largest causes of poverty and most single moms got impregnated out of wedlock. Plus having sex with multiple men as a woman seems to cause mental health issues cross culturally. And of course marriage laws benefit women more which is why less men are getting married.

  • 100% women. The status boost alone is huge.

  • I agree with you.
