Does my ISP know I watch porn?

Ok so I just watched an educational video on ISP
isp stands for internet service provider

For example my ISP is AT&T.

In the video it says when you want to visit a website like google
youd normally type Google. com right?

Well google. com is jus a shortcut for a bunch of numbers
These numbers are sent to your ISP & your ISP gives you permission to visit this website in a matter of milliseconds, if the website isn’t banned

Since you’re asking your ISP to visit the website
they know what website you’re going to, or it’s “tracked”, “recorded” but they don’t know what you’re doing on the website.

So does this mean my ISP knows I watch porn?

If this still doesn't make sense to you I’ll put it this way
Its like asking someone if you can use their restroom
They know you’re in the restroom, they just don’t know exactly what you’re doing, but it’s be easy to assume you’re shitting.
Yed they know

  • It's not so much that they know your watching porn, it's more like if they cared they could easily find out you are watching porn.

Hell, if you have roommates and one of them is in charge of the router in the house. They too would know you were watching porn if they cared to take a look.

Or if you are in a college dorm, the admin knows you are watching porn. If they care to investigate.

But so many people are watching porn that your porn habits are not all that intriguing... Except to your roommate.

  • Dude if you are worried about people looking at your traffic, use vpn software like cyberghost. Another guy recommended Tor. I use vpn software because I can keep all my favorites, applications in my browser.

VPN software creates an encrypted IP tunnel to the provider's network. From that network you are given a new point of origin, so not only can your ISP not view your traffic, the places you are visiting have no idea where you are coming from.

  • They could know about you specifically if they wanted to but they probably don't care enough to keep track of individuals. They are way more interested in in population trends from the marketing POV.

  • Your ISP knows.

    Google knows.

A whole bunch of other organizations probably know is well. You have a digital version of a thumbprint unless you hide it.

  • Lol nice analogy

  • If you're using a regular browser, yes.
If you're using something like TOR browser, and it's configured properly, then no.

  • In order for a surveillance to be effective, its key to reduce the amount of data to a minimum. Its not helping to record everybodies browserhistory, thats way to much information.
Instead you want to filter for things that are actual of interest, like illegal activities. No one cares for how much porn you watch.

  • Yes they do.

  • They are providing you access to the porn. Of course they'd know.

  • Educational video... yeah right😉

  • Well, they know but, there are millions like you watching it so, it's no problem unless it's banned in your place.

  • Yeah, but they don't care. In fact no actual person probably notices.

  • We know

  • They know every site you have ever visited.

  • It depends on the browser whether or not a block chain, cookie, etc is recorded. TOR browser is one browser that prevents tracking of any kind. A good VPN is also advised to be used while using the TOR browser.

    • Or just use a vpn. Cyberghost is cool.

  • Get a proxy if you don’t want them to know or a vpn u need a paid one or it’s bad
