Allow me to clarify:
1) I do not identify as a misogynist.
2) I believe in men and women being equal under law, and their place in society.
3) I think women have the right to their bodies (abortion etc).
4) I am against sexual assault, harassment, or rape. A women is never to be blamed for that outcome.
So what do I want to bring back with slut-shaming? It is crass phrase and a bit triggering but definitely attention getting and straight to the point.
We have to come to point in society where we have come circle with Feminism. Initially, Feminism was about promoting women as more than just their bodies. Their identity to be more than bimbos as desired by lusty men. Women being valued for their intelligence, personality, and achievements... rather than how much of their body they are willing to display and how easily.
Today, thanks to f****** Instagram we have screwed over society once again. First it was Facebook with all its oversharing and invasion of privacy, and then came Instagram with its glorification of vanity.
Every other young girls is a wanna be model/influencer on social media. If they are not straight out modeling tiny clothes, eventually all so called travel, makeup, fashion, food influencer start wearing skimpy clothes that would not be considered remotely decent. Why is this an issue? Because it NORMALIZES what is acceptable to wear in society and changes our standards. It alters the expectations people have. Lets face it... the amount of girls/people who are actually rebellious and go against social norms to make a statement are slim. The rest just chase the street-cred and allure of these rebellious personalities and do anything to pretend to be them. This effect is not lost on young girls who think they are next hot model or whatever. They may see the easy money, popularity, infamy they can gain by wearing tiny clothes and revealing more and more of their bodies. Which frankly, takes very little skill.
What is especially despicable is how Feminism is now misused. When the above mentioned scantily clad every-day girls are criticized for over-stepping the boundaries... they quickly run behind the banner of feminism (as if these influencers have ever done anything at their expense to promote feminism in the first place). They play themselves as roles models for girls who cannot do the same.... which is laughable. Marginalized women who actually are suffering from patriarchy in 3rd world countries do not give $.02 of shit about how they dress and want actual direct help to solve their situation or of others in their environment. They do not care about some self-obsessed, self-glorifying, and self-promoting opportunist for their 'token-feminism' based on struggles of actual women in oppressed situations.
As a summary, my point is we have lost our minds with accepting a thread of clothing to be normal-wear under the banner of feminism. Not too long ago, this was soft-core porn and prostitution for that matter.
Lets call it what it is instead of mislabeling it as feminism when it is clearly NOT.
