I really like wearing nice, tailored suits together with ties but I was so disappointed with the nature of my profession (software engineer working in computer graphics R&D). For my very first job out of university, I was to meet my colleagues in Los Angeles after speaking to them on Skype, doing a phone interview, and being offered a contract.

So that was my first big job beyond part-time jobs I had in the past and the first job after I graduated uni, and I went shopping for the nicest suit and had it tailor-made and got a lot of suggestions and tips on what to wear in ways that look sharp and professional.

Then I flew to LA and met my colleagues for the first time showing up in my suit expecting them to be sharply dressed as well and instead I found a bunch of people in t-shirts and pants with dirty sneakers eating Cheetohs next to their computers and burping out loud!

It was kind of a trauma for me but since then I never wore suits to work. I actually like it though and would prefer that we did. I would if I didn't stick out like the overdressed oddball by doing it.

I don't wear a tie to work and I don't wear a uniform. More or less I wear jeans and band shirts to work. Also I dislike ties. To me they are a working man's noose. Seems like many jobs that would require you to wear a suit and tie might make you want to hang yourself with the tie you are wearing. That's why you work on getting the skills and education that enable you to work in the lower back corner of a companies building. That way you can dress the way you want, listen to music at work and still make good money. That and you get to enjoy the funny interactions with coworkers that do have to dress business professional at work.

I think they make great nooses when a guy leans into the shredder and it gets caught... maybe that is why they brought in shredder boxes and got rid of the actual shredders. Now a company comes around and empties the boxes and the truck shreds it while they drive.

As for like or not, no difference.

I wear a coat and tie whenever I have a meeting with a client or a court hearing. Usually about three days per week.

if they wear them within reason sure. Some workplaces would look weird if they throw on a tie.
Like a tie at a more casual setting such as a go kart track is a bit weird

Otherwise, I generally wear closed collar jackets, although I unfasten the hook if I'm hot or need to breathe a little.

If we ever go into the office, our dress code is casual. Like shorts and sandals is okay.

Now if we travel to a client, we have a match their dress code policy when we visit. Some have been business casual with ties required. My experience has been majority are business casual polo-style. It's a shame sometimes because I have plenty of cool ties.
