Has anyone gotten pregnant before after getting tubes tied or vasectomy?

We’ve been hooking up for a long time and I do genuinely like him and stay over his place some weekends. When we first hooked up he told me he had a vasectomy years ago his daughter is only like 8 years younger than me. Long story short
Im pregnant we got into an argument he was more understanding and I was really upset. I still am I also assumed any type of tube tying or cutting I mean You can't Have Kids. I thought he lied but he didn’t idrk what happened all I know is I am now pregnant. My parents would definitely flip out since he has almost 20 years on me and I don't know what to do. My friends don’t even know about him. Please don’t make this into some abortion debate.

  • Yes my coworker her husband had a vasectomy and she still got pregnant. Im not sure if they waited the appropriate timeframes but the men are usually required to ejaculate for I dunno certain amount of times and then they go back to the doctor 4 a sperm count and doc says yup all dead or nope still got swimmers. Come back after this many more self love sessions. Also know a couple guys who have done it and had no new pregnancies. I dunno if he lied about it or just recently had it done. I have read it's possible to fail months and years after, rare but does occur.

  • yes. ALL birth control can fail.
Especially if he didn't for instance go back and double check like he's meant to.

  • Very suspicious that he was "more understanding".
I've had vasectomy myself and my immediate assumption would be that the woman got pregnant by someone else.
Vasectomy makes you effectively infertile, there is no way those ducts can just grow back together.

You can still get someone pregnant up to 2~3 months after getting vasectomy, because some sperm is always left over in the ducts.
But not "after years", whatever sperm cells that were left over would have been dead long ago.

    • I looked it up it’s rare but possible. He’s open to children Im on the fence about it.

    • @Kypax actually they can geow back on their own, look up recanalisation.

    • When I was getting mine I was told that only happens when the procedure is not performed thoroughly and that after I get a 0 count test I shouldn't have to worry. Looking it up online right now, the cases of recanalization that I found all mention the patient only having 10~15 mm of vas deferens removed, which is below the minimum recommendation for the procedure and they don't mention what method was used to seal the ducts. According one study I found, cauterization with fascial interposition has a 0% failure rate. I don't remember what the hell I had, I guess I will get a sperm count test once in a while..

    • Show All
  • It is possible for a vasectomy to self reverse, it's called recanalisation, where the vas differens regrows.

    • I see …. now

    • He should go and see his doctor to have everything checked out.

  • Definitely possible. Its not 100% effective since it can grow back

  • Check this out, my sister;s husband got a vasectomy about 17 years ago. They have three girls now, 16, 13, 11.
No she didn't cheat, crazy right?

  • My self personally no nor had such things lol.
But other people as in can it happen? Of course. You would have to be very informed to think any form of contraception just works 100%.
