Has sexual activity among young people run wild as a result of artificial birth control methods or not so much?

Do you think sexual activity among young singles would be far less if there were no modern day birth control methods?

No, there would be no less and no more sex among young singles without any birth control, the statistics for having sex would be the same
Vote A
There would definitely be less sex for fear of pregnancy without artificial birth control
Vote B
There would be far more natural methods used if no artificial birth control were available, but still not as much sex going on
Vote C
There would be a dramatic increase in oral and anal sex than what there is now without artificial birth control

  • My dad and I had a talk about this once, he said back in his day, sex was wanted but soo super scary. HIV was the big thing and they were basically told, you get it you die. It terrified him and lots of his friends into not doing it. As condoms can be useful but if they break or something, or you have a malfunction like they fall off during intercourse.

Then add to the mix, pregnancy and child support, they were terrified out of ever doing it until married.

At least what he says in our long talks, it would seem like things are safer these days so those fears have been removed, probably has increased (across the board) people willing to have lots of sexual activities.

I know in my family I have to be the record holder champ for it... as I'm the second youngest.

At the same time though social standards have changed, people aren't as shunned for having lots of sex.

Although I do have to laugh at people who say they want to wait until married and won't have sex, but they'll still soak... like umm... yeah.

Or the girl I know that had lots and lots of sex but wouldn't kiss a guy until she got married, so she could have something to give him on their wedding night.

Some weird people out there, I'm one of them! :)

    • I love it! ... lot of good points and humor... lol

  • Some are just jumping in so fast. You can get birth control now anywhere. Most fully even read the box or listen to their doctor on how long they should be taking it, before unprotected sex. I have an friends college kid who I know is having sex and just going at it like rabbits.

  • I don't believe its solely or primarily a pregnancy fear... I believe a STD fear plays a LARGE factor. I myself refrain from random hook ups because the first thing I think of is a STD risk then other moral thinking creeps in too.
Sex is more acceptable now a days compared to 100 years ago but even without birth control people did it outside of marriages...
I think condoms (french letters 19th century term) were invented (16th century) to prevent syphilis more than to prevent pregnancy... So it shows that a fear of disease rather than pregnancy makes us more weary.

    • Wow! I learned something new! I did not know that. Thank you.😁

  • Well, we had birth control when I was younger as well, but hookup culture wasn't quite as normalized then as it is now. I feel like more people were in relationships.
I think the internet has had a bigger impact. Porn, Social media, Tinder and smartphones so you can keep contact with the world at the touch of your fingers has really given people options. It's made hooking up with a variety of people very convenient and popular now.

    • I agree.

    • @Lliam Oh thanks.

  • The premise of your question is incorrect. Sex among teenagers is actually at an all-time low. https://ifstudies.org/blog/fewer-american-high-schoolers-having-sex-than-ever-before
And if birth control methods didn't exist, we'd probably have about the same number of people having sex, only with way more accidental pregnancies.

    • Can I ask you a question

  • Sex isn't a recent invention, the Romans loved a good orgy. Worldwide young people throughout history have found ways of not getting pregnant.

    • I like the Romans :) ... lol

  • I dunno. Younger generations are actually having less sex than older generations (Gen X and older). Probably has something to do with over reliance and addiction of technology which is stunting many people's social skills

  • Has it really?
I've met 17 year old girls who think dudes wear condoms all the time in order to prevent "leakage".
If anything the modern youth are the most sexually sheltered they've ever been in a long time lol.

  • So glad to be my generation and not my grandparents’.

  • it was a major contributor, I recall hearing a minister say the same thing back when this liberation was ripening. It was not like this in the 70's... although kids were still doing this, they were doing this in the 1800's, but it's changed in social acceptance and opportunity. people who wouldn't before, will consider it.

  • Excellent question and I'm sure sociologists have been studying this question since the 1960's when "the pill" came out. The "sexual revolution" started after birth control pills came into being. Then, that simmered down when herpes started, and even more so when AIDS started in the early 1980's.

  • Less frequent yes because in the past if you had sex you got pregnant so had to get married.

  • I think it has increased, but not in an even spread, there are a small minority benefiting from the increase in availability while others are left out and left behind, which leads to either bitterness or depression for those not part of these experiences.

  • i would guess people in the last 60 years had a lot more sex than people before that

  • Kind of. The birth control pill helped to kick off the sexual revolution in the 60s, and ever since then, sexual morals have become increasingly loose. To add to that people have become less religious over time.

  • My vote goes for "B".

  • Nope, you can't control hormones.

  • There are many factors that drove up premarital sexual activity and birth control was one of them. Interestingly, sexual activity among young men in their 20s has declined since 2010. Newer forces like social media and hook-up culture are at work.

  • I grew up a long time ago and birth control was invented but you needed a prescription. Girls could not get one because her parents would find out. Everyone was afraid of getting knocked up.

  • Most births are from people using 1-2 forms of birth control at the same time, so claimed effectiveness is innaccurate.

Hysterectomies, tubal ligations, and vasectomies are the only currently effective birth control methods.

Statistically, it used to be common to have very large families as well.

People today are having less babies per household, but are still having the same amount of households ending up with at least some babies.

So its only served to reduce child count per household, not increase the number of households with no children at all.

Simply put, using contraceptive methods means you will have 2-4 kids, instead of 8-20.

  • Its virtual condom of morality is what keep some teens away otherwise with protection or not they will have sex they are teenagers when lust is upon the head caution goes to the wind

  • Interesting no girls voted for this. Just look at catholic schools and in America the Mormon community. Both these forms of sex are very popular as a way of keeping yourself a “virgin” if the fear of pregnancy as a result of no contraception was real I believe the same phenomenon would happen.
