  If only it was that simple but we sit opposite eachother at work and I can't stand the awkwardness anymore that's why I started to just be nice and say hi which he would do too then now he walks by and says that?

  Because my supposed best friend went round telling everyone at work, so obviously me and her don't talk anymore either so not only do I have to avoid him but her too :/ if I thought I could approach him and get a mature answer I would but he's the sort of guy that thinks it's funny if someone is annoyed at him, you are totally right he is a dick!

  You don't need to get a mature answer from him. You only need to make sure he knows you are not going to accept it. That is what is important from this. Next step is talking to your manager or HR person. And see if you can reconcile with your former best friend to at least get things on talking terms. It'll help your mindset to resolve that.
