Help!! Sexted with a minore am I being scammed or in real legal trouble?

PLEASE READ ALL.. I messaged this girl on a dating site profile said 18. I opened with hi what are you doing? She said nothing just in bed horny. I asked for her # I texted her hey then she asked for pics I said you first. She sent me a nude then I sent 1 back and she started talking dirty to me. It ended their then the next day her dad calls me telling me she's a minore. Saying he's thinking to take it to the police. I said I had no idea she was then he said would you be willing to work something out. I said like what he said I'm gonna talk to my wife then call you back. I have a feeling they're going to ask for money or threaten to call the police. What should I do? I feel like this was entrapment how was I supposed to know she was a minore! Im only 20 years old could I actually catch a sex offender charge for an honest mistake?

Your being scammed, if they were serious the police would have been notified already. The fact that the so called dad, did not tell you her age is also a clue this is something shady.

The thing is, you can also be in legal trouble for accepting a pic of a minor, as well as for sending a pic to the minor. But you should be good, as you answered an ad that stated her age as being. I hope you were smart enough to make a copy of her ad, before it is or was removed.

Don't reply to anything further that they send you. If you are telling the truth then you had no reason to suspect her age was under 18 because you had evidence that she was 18 and she didn't contradict that at any point. This is just a scam. They will probably threaten to post your nude photo to various places or people, maybe even your contacts. Don't reply. If you give in to blackmail it will never stop. If you didn't show your face in the photo that you sent then you can always deny it was you, even if they do send it to your contacts.

Wait until he makes the offer, whatever it is. Have him send you an email. Try to get it from him in writing. Try to make arrangements to meet him to make whatever exchange he demands. Then go to the police or report him to the fbi. There’s a page somewhere that you can report this kind of stuff. Odds are he lives nowhere near you. He will insist on gift cards or something that has cash value but doesn’t require identity. And won’t give you any personal info.

@Sucram there are multiple differences here. He didn’t meet her, he didn’t have sex with her. Culpability is only established once he either demonstrates intent to pursue a minor OR willful negligence (ie through meeting etc) . He did neither.

Once he found out the claim “she” was a “minor” he is only complicit if he chooses to retain the image and ignore that she was reported as a minor. This is why I told him to report the profile. To eliminate potential culpability he can demonstrate intent or willful negligence were not a factor by taking these steps.

@asker 17 years with a 19 years old is legal in Michigan as far as I know. @Izumiblu that's how it should be, it will probably help, but in both cases it seemed legal because she lied that she was old enough but was not.

She’s fourteen, she looks fourteen and acts fourteen, the guy knows it by looking at her but he figures he’s covered by her lie which is meaningless anyway because she’s a minor under law. Screenshot her profile and all of your text conversation just to be on the safe side. You had no way of suspecting the girl was under age and when you found out (which I'm sure this is a scam, but this is all just cya anyways) you had no further contact. From a legal stand point you are fine. No DA would prosecute that.

Yea I blocked his # and took screen shoots for proof in case of the small chance it is real. Regardless she never disclosed to me she was 15 I had no way of knowing she was a minor. The website makes you sign an agreement that your 18+ so if anything I think she would get in more trouble

They cannot request money from you from a legal stand point. They can take you to court, however. Though it would be against their interests as 1. You were misinformed and possibly "off the hook" and two: their daughter broke the law by sharing a pic of herself whilst under legal age.

Something "like this" occurred to me years ago. A grown woman, perhaps in her early 40's had given me her number. I had texted with her several times. One day, she texted me a sexual comment, and I responded with a reply in synch with her comment. Days later, I was talking with the woman and I brought up that texting conversation. She told me only then that she allows her 14-year-old daughter to use her phone when she wasn't using it. OMG. I told the woman, that she should have told me this b4 I had texted that sort of text. While she didn't seem to alarmed with the situation - I was. I just ended our relationship as it overall wasn't a good fit.
As with your situation, if what you have said here is fact. I would ignore the matter, leave it ( her ) completely alone. IF the Father brings it up again - I would record the conversation, or save the text. It "sounds like" your being played.
