On average how often do you think a couple should be intimate together? Everyone has off weeks or months but on average how often is reasonably achievable for you and your partner?
Id this average including the weeks during her period? One sided attention or do you class each intimate situation that both need to orgasm?
Like you said it can vary greatly from time to time, and people can have pretty different libidos. Some couples can go moths between and feel like that is totally okay and satisfactory. Others want to do it many times a week.
I'd say a normal average, and what I also like, is 2-3 times a week. The longest me and my girlfriend went without was maybe 1 month, when she was a little depressed and didn't feel good or confident. I missed our intimacy in that time, but suddenly she was back in the mood. It just depends so much on what we do during the day, what ideas and interest we have, how much free time we have.
What SHOULD be focused on is feeling safe and accepted with each other, creating a playful and loving atmosphere and communicating about needs and desires to see if you are compatible. If all that is in place, you should probably be regularly intimate, meaning touching each other and recieving sexual pleasure in each other (doesn't need to be penetration or orgasm) from once a month to mutliple times a week depending on your libido.
I suppose it matters whether you are speaking SO or married.
It goes from 7% having sex once a year to 5% having sex four or five times a week. There are your outliers.

an expectation of 1.5 times a week should be understood as normative for those with full and exhausting lives.

Minimum for tired working people that have kids should be once per week. It should be more often for most people like 3 + times per week after being settled in a relationship for a while. Of course it may be more often when the relationship is new.
