How can you tell when the condom was bought?

I found a condom in my husbands bag, we dont ever use condoms at all. Only when we first did it and that was since 2014 and we only use one time, thats all. Anyways, the condom was copyright on 2013 and expired July 2018. I asked him about it and he told me that it was part of the package from when we first did it. Is he telling the truth? We met on 2013 and dated on 2014. Had our first sex on 2014 too.

  • How long is the expiration date on condoms?
    From three to five years

Mr. Estrin said manufacturers would individually determine an expiration date for their products based on their own studies. Some consumer advocates have suggested that if kept away from heat and light, condoms will remain fresh from three to five years after manufacture.

    • July 2018 as stated on the description.

  • A condom in a bag since 2014 seems a little odd if its a bag he uses often and since you guys dont use condoms

These condoms being dated from when you guys used them is not the best indication but it is a good one. However it doesn't justify why its in there to a comfortable point, at least for me

    • By the way you can find single condoms im certain

  • Most condom manufactures put expiration of 3-5 years. So this certainly fits the window. Most condoms will have a number on it that can be de-coded to find out when it was manufactured or packaged. That will give you a clearer window of when he possibly bought it.

  • Check the expiration date.

    • July 2018 is the expiration date.

    • Seems normal. Expiration dates are 4-5 years usually. So matches up with the story.

    • As others have said you can't buy them singly here. Smallest pack I know is 5

  • Since a condom is not a written piece of work, it does not get copyrighted. I assume you mean manufactured. And that would be fresh on the shelf at the store then, so it makes sense.

  • There is no way to tell when someone bought the condoms unless you have a receipt. The best bet is copyright i guess.

  • expiration date

  • You could look for receipts or a payment trail on your account.

  • Yeah that seems right. You can't just buy one at the very least maybe a 3 pack.

    • So u think he's telling the truth?

    • Yes I would say he's telling the truth.

  • Yeah, he's right. Copyrights have to be renewed each year. So if it was recent, you'd know.

  • he is probably telling the truth

  • well, you don't buy single condoms, I think the smallest packages I know contain 3.
So that seems legit... unless you have a good reason to not believe him, I wouldn't put too much thought into it

  • seems legit

  • Break up, you obviously have trust issues and he deserves better.

    • Yeah cause he's cheated before.

  • Typically, the copyright date will change every year. It is likely, that is an old 2013 one. The expiration date sounds right, since they have about a 5 year life, depending on the type.

I'm sure I have some well expired condoms hanging around my place now. I also know I have some old wrappers around that have so far survived being detected from cleaning.

If the wrapper of the condom looks well worn from having stuff crammed on top or around it is another clue to its age.
