How do you feel about Apple's upcoming teen sexting update?

If you didn't read, over in Great Britain, when a child's phone receives or sends a nude, there will be options. When receiving, it will say "This photo may be sensitive, are you sure you want to view it?" Along with the options "View, don't view, message a grown up".

On the flip side, they also have security for CHILDREN who decide to send pictures. This will read "It is your choice, but make sure you feel safe." Along with the choices to send, don't send, or message a grown up.

From what I gathered this will be only through Apple's texting, third party apps such as snapchat won't be effected. For this to be active, the minor's phone needs to be connected to a "family." I really don't think Apple should even allow the minors the oppurtunity to send them. If technology can detect it, it can block it. Minors have plenty of other platforms to do so. I'm sure Great Britain also has Child Pornography laws. Police should be alerted automatically.

  • Wait- how does the texting program know a picture is a nude one? Forget how creepy it is that that's accepted; how is it POSSIBLE, given the insane number of pictures that probably get sent back and forth there every day?

    • Facebook once had this campaign to have people send their nudes so if they're sent out by other users you're alerted. Maybe there's an algorithim that detects some kimd of patterns in the appearance of the picture? Or a dedicated team that monitors pictures.

  • I feel like parents should be responsible for what their kid is doing with their phone. There’s already safety features, there’s tutorials online, I really dislike the passing off of responsibility from parents to Everyone else

    • I can agree to an extent, because responsible parenting is important, but monitoring your kid's internet activities 24/7, especially teenagers, isn't very realistic.

  • Not a bad idea. The teen boys will have to stick with porn pictures for something to jerk off to

  • Sounds good EXCEPT they are prosecuting kids as adults, yet they say they are protecting them because they are not grownup to understand.

  • It won't call the police, Apple are liberals so want those pictures for themselves
