How does the nurse ask you to undress or a physical?

In my experience it's usually very clinical sounding. But today i had a younger nurse, about my age i'd say. When she was done doing all the preliminary stuff and was leaving she told me "Alright everything off including your bra and panties, then get the gown on with the opening in the back, the doctor will be in shortly"

While she didn't say it harshly I was a little taken a back by her confident, commanding voice and that she said panties instead of underwear. I think my pediatrician was the last doctor that called my underwear panties.

  • I was at the doctor's office one time and I was getting an old fashioned shot in the butt. When she told me to pull my pants down she saw I was wearing panties.( I didn't realize I would be getting a shot in the butt obviously ) and the nurse actually said "pretty panties". ☺️

  • Lol the last nurse who gave me a physical just straight up said "remove everything". Nothing more or less XD

  • On the very few visits I've had to make to either the Doctor or hospital, I've been asked to remove everything except for my bra and panties.

    • Thank you for your answer. May i ask -if you remember- did the nurse say "panties" or "underwear"? To me underwear in the word they usually use and was surprised when i hear panties instead.

    • To be quite truthful I have heard both being used, I tend to think this must have something to do with the age of the nurse at the time, those of a more senior age will use the word underwear, whereas those of a younger age refer to it as panties. These are naturally my own personal thoughts.

    • Thank you, that was a well thought out possible explanation. Do you have a preference in which word is used? Which word do you think you've heard used more often? I think underwear is more common but i did enjoy the nurse saying panties today. I know it's such a small meaningless difference but panties sounds more interesting than underwear.

  • Yeah that is normal. I know a few woman that call underwear (panties ) I do sometimes. Panties by definition is : female Underwear.

  • when I have been to the doctor and hospital it is temove everything except bra and panties the exception being when I gave birth.

  • You’re getting really caught up in semantics that have no deeper meaning than “get undressed”

    • i know, but it was really hot in the moment. I know the nurse didn't mean anything by what she said except trying to get me ready for the doctor but it was still hot being told to get undressed and knowing i was expected to comply.

  • Has happened to me before but the nurse said underwear
