How easily do condoms break when worn properly?

I want to become sexually active and plan on wearing a condom every time. But I'm terrified of it failing and getting someone pregnant. I'd rather hang myself than get someone pregnant. I wish I could get a vasectomy.

  • You need to get the right size condom! Be careful because when buying condoms, some of the "special" kinds can run a bit bigger, and if she's a virgin... the chances of it breaking are high! Because the first 4 times when I was first having sex as basically a virgin the condom broke each time because I was so tight. And so just go slow okay and feel it out first and then go wild, it has never broken before after the 4th time no matter how rough the sex. We used trojan, the blue ones (original).

  • Make sure that you have the right size condom and that it's not expired. Check the wrapper to see if there is a bubble in it - that means nothing has poked through the package and damaged the condom. Only used water based lubes like KY or Astroglide, since oils (like Vaseline or coconut oil) will break down the latex.

    • Well said! Using an oil-based lubricant is the chief cause of condom failure. With an oil based lubricant, a condom will literally fall apart in your hand. Avoid lotions, vaseline, baby oil etc.

  • Follow the instruction on the box, be sure that the girl is lubricated enough and use lube if it's needed.

  • I've never had a condom break while i put it on properly. Lots of guys I've heard roll the entire thing on so there is no room in the condom. However i was told you need to leave the tip of the condom empty and a little extra at the end so the sperm has somewhere to go, so pinch the tip of the condom while your putting it on.

    • Thanks (:

  • I don't know, I hate them but I do know (from circle of people), that the ultra thin ones break almost immediately.

  • dont double bag itll increase friction and chance of breaking.

condoms are 97% effective according to the packaging but if you know the girl is on birth control too then you won't get her pregnant

    • It doesn't always work out that way, someone I know got pregnant with both the pill and a condom

    • the chances of that happening are extremely low when using two things that are 97% and 92% effective, the condom would have to break and birth control fail.

  • use a lot of lube, and double bag it

    • Double bagging is a bad idea, since the friction between them will cause both to break. It also doesn't offer any extra protection and it just decreases sensitivity for the guy.

    • lol I just read the other comments about it..

  • Condoms suck. My penis is too big around for average sized ones and the magnum doesn't stay on. So I am "screwed".
