How many SEXUAL PARTNERS did you have BEFORE you got MARRIED?

How many SEXUAL PARTNERS did you have BEFORE you got MARRIED?

This question is for married, or formerly-married people only...

Apparently, as shown in the graph, some research shows that the number of pre-marital sex partners you have affects your chance of divorce.

So how many partners did you have before you got married? Tell us in the poll.

And tell us how long you've been married, or if divorced, how long were you married, in an opinion.

Please, only answer this question if you are married or were once married.

Answer Anon if you want.

I'll start things off. I had two sexual partners (one was my fiancée) before marriage, and was married for 20+ years before an amicable divorce.

  • Not that stupid, single study again. What a pile of horse shit.

I had 7 long term girlfriends before I got married. I think I had sex with 5 more non-girlfriends, and that doesn't count blow jobs.

I voted 6-9 partners because I was thinking of girlfriends, but I should have voted 10+.

I don't know how many sexual encounters or relationships my wife had before we got married, but she had lived a full life. After all, I was 42 and she was 37 when we tied the knot.

We've been happily married now for almost 26 years, had a LOT of fun and built a wonderful life together.

    • The study is bad because it implies that the number of premarital sexual partners *causes* later divorce (s) which is of course wrong - the truth is that this is a correlational relationship, and correlation is not causation. You can have 100 premarital sexual partners and never get divorced, and have done and then have 3 divorces. There is NO demonstrated causation. However - it may be that the same factors that predispose people to have a lot of sex prior to marriage also cause a lot of extramarital sex during marriage, which then may cause divorces as a result of cheating. This is not proven but at least it seems more plausible than the study described here. If it is true, then men should avoid women who have an early onset of menstruation, since that is a very strong predictor of early sexual activity and thus of later divorces.

    • @msc545. LOL That's actually logical. 👍 I think it's interesting that people always use that same, single study as 'proof' that women who have premarital sex are more likely to get divorced. As if there aren't a million reasons why people may get divorced. And if you look at the study, women are just as likely to get divorced of they have had 2 or 10+ previous partners. Why does it drop off between 2 and 10? The conclusion we are supposed to draw is that women who had zero partners before marriage don't get divorced. 🤣🤣🤣 "The Institute for Family Studies (IFS) is a think tank which promotes right-of-center policies intended to improve family formation and child care. The institute also supports conservative (and, no doubt, Christian) perspectives towards marriage and family structure." No bias there. LOL Either way, I certainly don't consider its conclusions to be definitive. True science includes various, hopefully non-biased or ideologically driven studies, points of view, and conclusions. So where are the other voices on this issue?

    • If you Google the phrase is early menstruation, a predictor of early sexual activity and of infidelity and divorce. You will actually find a bunch of fairly interesting articles on this topic. It turns out it's a very complex relationship Mathematically and nothing so simple as what suggested in that stupid and flawed study.

  • I had 14 partners before my wife, we married when I was 32 years old, and we were married for 17 years before a fairly acrimonious divorce. She eventually went to live with her sister and brother-in-law. About two years later, her sister died. Within 30 days, my ex married her brother-in-law.

    • despite swapping partners the marriage survived long!!

    • @strateguy632 All of that happened after we were divorced. I was faithful to her for 17 years and, to the bext of my knowledge, she never cheated on me. She was a horrible wife but that wasn't one of her faults.

  • My ex fiancé was my 1st man and I really wish he would be my last one as well.

But now that I got single at almost 26, I wish there will be someone else who’ll be my last one, but haven’t met someone that special for the last 11 months of singleness.

    • *I really wished

  • I love how in the 80s and nineties that 2 partners was a higher divorce rate then 10 partners. What was going on with just having 2 partners?

    • @mandyfire98 Maybe it was having more than 10 partners got it out of their system so that they were more likely to stay committed to their partner, while having only 2 partners made people wonder if there was somethign better out there.

    • Definitely possible.

  • I'm surprised to see that close to 40% of GaGers who voted, were married as virgins.

Before voting, I thought it was close to zero.
