I'd say once a day. Because hormones are unpredictable. What if you're in a relationship and your partner isn't available for sex one day, but you suddenly get horny? Sure, you could hold it in. But I also don't see anything wrong with masturbating while thinking about them (eyes closed), as long as they give you permission to do that.
