The Ancient Greeks had many good Ideas

One is the Idea of Eudemonic Happiness and the Idea of Hedonistic Happiness

Hedonistic Happiness involves things like lust / praise / winning competitions / racing cars / playing video games / getting drunk/ swimming in hotels / painting your nails / eating chips or fries or ice cream

Eudemonic Happiness involves things like gratitude / celebrating a friend's graduation / celebrating a friend's marriage / buying children for young children / helping people who are depressed / building a person's confidence / getting an A on an exam / laughing at a child's ignorance and humour / building schools in poor countries

Eudemonic Happiness drives out Hedonistic Happiness

When you are thanking God and celebrating the ability to show His love for others and rejoicing over the good things God is doing like healing sick people or making evil people good - you lose your desire for hedonistic happiness involving things that cannot be shared like greed or dominance

This is how you drive out lust and unwanted sexual fetish or attachment

Thank you very much for the new word "Eudemonic Happiness" and the definition. I totally agree. I think this can link to Delayed Gratification? If you can control your desires well, you will be happier later. Of course, focusing on others than just yourself is good for the world. Care and empathy over selfishiness.

Why would I want to drive out lust? You may be right that there are two kinds of happiness, but I don't see why one should be at the expense of the other, why one should be condemned for... well, you haven't really explain why here, now have you?
