How would I react? First of all, don't freak out. Explain that nude pictures belong in skin magazines, not in 12 year old's phones.

My children were allowed to see both of us dressed or undressed. Take the mystery out of the purpose of clothing and it's not a big deal. My girls, at the age of 12, knew the reproductive systems of men and women. At 12 they got their first condom to carry, "just in case". They were checked, medically, for any genital problems. They grew up to be healthy adult women, one with two children, a boy and a girl. The other hasn't hooked up with someone yet.
#1 snatch their phone and ground them, plus check to whom were the pics being send, read the convo, then talk to the guy or girl who asked for it and tell em to stay away from my daughter or something.

#1 we'd sit down and talk at length about it and why that should not be happening. I find anger and great mongering to not help, but rather cool, reasoned logic works best for my son.
#2 he's not met a girlfriend of mine since my divorce and won't until and unless it's serious enough that we're considering marriage, so if he said that if just give him "the look" where we both know that's not true.
In reality, he still thinks romance is gross right now and while he wants me to find it he doesn't want it for himself.

Initial reaction would be one with a bit of anger in which all cameras would be removed and the child would be informed they are to get dressed and go down stairs.
After a few minutes of cool down time, I’d apologize for whatever yelling I have done and sit down and talk about it. Why it shouldn’t be done and that I love them.
I don’t do such things as it is, and if I did, I’d wonder first how that knowledge came to my apparently well observant kid and then have that conversation about marital love and that importance.

A woman in my country caught her 12 year old daughter doing exactly that (the girl was posting such pictures of herself in her underwear on Facebook to impress some teenage boy). The girl was beaten by the mother with a belt and the beating was posted on Facebook. I would probably do exactly what that mother did.
