I'm 14 and going to the obgyn help me?

So I haven't really been to a specialized obgyn before. I have so many questions maybe there is a obgyn here that could help me.
I'm 14 (not 13) and I am on the pill also.
Can they tell if your active?
What all happens?
Do my parents have to be there?
Can they tell if you have semen in you?
Do I not have intercourse before I go?
Do I wear underwear?
Legit anything to help calm me and inform me more I tried googling but honestly couldn't find good not censored information.

  • I am not one but I came out of one.
    1) They can tell if your hymen is broken or not. That can happen from other things than sex though.
    2) It depends on if it's just a checkup or not. The checkup is just checking to make sure you're healthy. Basically making sure your breasts and vagina don't have any problems. If it's not a checkup I can't help you because I don't know why you are going (DON'T tell me)
    3) Probably not. My mom was only an OBGYN for people 18+ and even if they were still with their parents, they could choose. I don't think so though due to HIPPA
    4) Not sure. Just don't have sex before going.

    6) You should. You might have to take it off, but it might be weird if you don't.

    It's not a huge deal. It's not a big deal and every female needs to go eventually. Very rarely is the time with the doctor worse than the lead up.
    If you don't want your parents to know something and they don't go in the room with you, just make sure you don't list them as allowed access to your medical records there. If you're not sure how to do this, ask your OBGYN how to keep your records away from your parents. They will be shared with all your other doctors, but you don't have to give your parents access if you don't want to.

  • Just take it like a random drug test.. do need to prepare for anything. And as far as ur parents being there it’s up to you. I mean if they find anything I don’t think HIPPA will apply since ur not 18 and you will be put in the same chart as ur parents as a family folder.

    What all happens? they usually just ask general health questions and whether u r sexually active, how many partners, if u want an STD test, if you r taking contraceptives

    Can they tell if you have semen in you? they usually do a smear test and general exam, so if you recently had unprotected sex semen could still be in the vagina

    Do I wear underwear? yes but again that depends on personal preference

    • Are you serious? Your hymen can be broken in a whole lot of different ways besides having sex.

  • They can’t “tell” if you are active but they will ask and your should tell the truth. You can have sex the night before. Ideally not right before you appointment.


    Relax. Let your knees fall to the sides. It makes it easier for them and it’s less uncomfortable if you are relaxed. You got this!

    • I just saw more of your questions. Yes wear underwear, they will have you take it off and put on a gown. I don’t know where you live, but in the US you do not need your parents if you are 13 or older.

    • Not sure about the US but it is confidential, it’s best to abstain and just have a good shower, clean underwear etc. Rest of it girls know lol. I even chickened out with my daughters lol

  • Don't get too worked up about it. Especially if it's your first time they'll tell you everything that they'll do. In my experience some things that happen is:
    -Examining the labia
    -Feeling the walls of the vagina with the finger
    -Cervical exam (they'll put a speculum in your vagina to see the cervix)
    -Bimanual exam (one finger up the vagina with the other hand palpating the lower abdomen)
    And maybe
    -Manual breast exam
    -Vaginal-rectal exam.

  • The answer to all of your questions is yes. You are a minor and will need to have your parents there with you. They can tell if you have been sexually active and will notice the semen inside you. Why would you not want to wear underwear... are you used to going commando or something?

    They will put you feet up in stirrups, with your legs spread wide and use a cold ass speculum to open you up and have a look inside. Should you abstain from having intercourse before you go... that is totally up to you.

    One thing that puzzles me is why at only 14 you are on the pill and having a pelvic exam being done?
