Well, the obvious choice is just to ask him; if that's too much for you, then other options are to playfully give his butt a slap at some point; he'll likely want to return the favor (probably some time when you aren't expecting it, but it could at least give you a window to mention the idea), or simply take his hand and use it to spank yourself while smooching; that should get the point across (or at least confuse him enough that he asks).

You should, however, work yourself towards becoming more comfortable with discussing this sort of thing with him; he IS your boyfriend, after all.

That's not a big ask, and there's no reason to be embarrassed. He probably has things he would like to ask you. Go aheadanf ask. If he reacts badly, that's a sign that you aren't compatible.
