If a castaway was spotted completely naked on a deserted island (marooned there for months), would he/she be arrested for indecency?

I'm not sure of the laws of every country, and which countries' jurisdiction those islands could be under. But if I'm not mistaken, nudity isn't really legal anywhere, at least not in many countries.

Is it true that if a certain country in SE Asia, the Caribbean or Polynesia forbids nudity, then nudity on an isolated uninhabited island under the jurisdiction of said country (s) is against the law as well?

I don't think a sailor would appreciate seeing a person's naked rear end or genitalia tbh. 😅

Anyhow, there are many contradictions in questions like this, I and many others don't know the proper answer.

What usually happens if a castaway is found without a stitch of clothing on though?

I've heard of Blue Lagoon, The Cay, Naked And Afraid and Castaway (although Tom Hanks is in a loincloth, so he was off the hook).

This is a law and ethics question, not a fetish question.

Superb Opinion

  • No way that would obviously be the stupidest thing ever if that really happened lol being castaway means you are completely stranded on an island alone thousands of miles away from any civilization! lmfao what kind of cop would think hmmm yes we need to arrest them for indecent exposure! xD

Also for all the girls here i need more answers to my question please! 🥰 Girls, whats your opinion about endowed men going commando or not wearing any underwear?

  • If a castaway is found it would be the same as if a fire victim had their clothes burned off or a medical emergency where the patient had their clothes cut off. Nobody is concerned about them being naked there's an actual emergency going on.

    • Yes. But the US Navy and USCG probably don't mess around, and wouldn't make exceptions. American authorities and military are very by-the-book about indecency it seems.

    • Make exceptions to what? There's a castaway, you pick them up, nobody gives a shite what they're wearing. I'm a vet, what nonsense are you talking about?

    • I heard that nudity is illegal on isolated tropical islands. What if a sailor passed by and gets offended?

  • I think the circumstances would be taken into account before charging the person with a crime.

    • Well some Navies and Coast Guards, US in particular, are very by-the-book and Puritan.

    • There is ZERO chance that a castaway found naked by the US Coast Guard is going to be charged with anything in this situation.

    • Yes, but nudity laws oin and around the USA are medieval. Even on isolated islands like this. Or so I've heard...

  • Only if the finder was American. The rest if the world is not so uptight.

    • I agree, I'm from the US myself.

    • That's why I asked this question.

    • It wouldn't surprise me if the Puritan crew of the USN or USCG apprehended the castaway (s) instead of giving food water and medical care.

  • There are no laws proohibiting nudity in UK as long as you don't cause deliberate upset.

    • I mean spotted maroon on a remote island in the buff. Would some Navies arrest you on the spot nonetheless?

    • I vdoubt it very much.

    • Nudity laws in some countries, such as the US, are medieval. Even in isolated places like this. Or so I've heard...

  • Are you planning on being marooned on a deserted island?

    • No. I'm just asking for answers to hypothetical situations.

    • So this seems vaguely similar to a question regarding accidental nudity at a water park I ran into a few weeks ago on here...

  • Deserted by definition means uninhabited, therefore a castaway would be the only person on the island.

He or she could do what they liked!

    • Your question actually is null, because a castaway on the Island means it isn't deserted!

  • No because more likely then not it wasn't a choice

  • Probably not I’d assume but I wouldn’t know

  • Under what jurisdiction?

    • Of the nearest country; Jamaica, Panama, Indonesia, Philippines, Tahiti, etc.

    • However Hawaii, Florida Keys and Puerto Rico (all within the US), chances of arrest if caught are pretty high.

    • And Muslim countries. Instant "justice".

  • No a castaway can't be expected to have proper clothing. They are lucky to be alive.

  • only if they somehow sexually assaulted someone in that state, i guess.

  • Hopefully they had some sunscreen!

  • Probably the last thing on their mind if marooned and wanted to be rescued

  • Check local laws

  • He or she? And are they hot? “Indecency” offenses usually follow the ugly in my experience.

    • 18-50 years old

  • Who by lol

    • Well say if the rescue ship was the Navy or Coastguard (the authorities of the ocean).

    • I'd like to think they'd adopt the sensible approach and cover their modesty with some surplus clothing and avoid arrest

    • I think the USN and USCG would apprehended them nonetheless, but island police from elsewhere would do what you described.

  • Typically not. They would probably have to be rescued by the police. Plus indecency laws are about being naked in public places. A deserted island is not considered a public place.

  • Nope

    • That's what I thought. Thanks.
