In your opinion, do rapists deserve to die?

So I was watching Dexter on netflix and it was that episode where Dex wants to kill a guy cause he killed another guy, but then found out that he only killed him cause he raped him. So Dexter let him go and asked him if he deserved to die, and the guy said yes. So I thought about making a poll here to see what people think. Ps: this includes any way to die and be killed, not only death penalty.

  • I don't know, on the one hand what they do is horrible but on the other hand most rapist where themselves raped so how does one punish a person for a crime they commited when it was most likely caused by some one commiting the same crime against them. They are both victimizer and victim so which one trumps the other? Also what if its a female rapist (and there are plenty)? Would she also deserve to be killed? I ask only because statistically women get only a third of the sentence for commiting the same crime as a man so we do have a bias against harming women. So would that apply? Would that difference be acceptable? I have mixed feelings on this personally so I don't really know what the right answer would be, plus how do you know the person is a rapist? Is it because the courts found him guilty? One man was accused of raping a woman and was imprisoned for ten years, he lost everything and no one would believe him that he was innocent. The only reason they reopened the case was because he crucified himself on the steps of the courthouse at which point they found that the DNA analysis conclusively proved he was innocent. A woman admitted to lying about being raped in order to cover up her infidelity. So how was it determined the man was a rapist at all? This is why vigilantism is so dangerous because there are so many different factors how do you tell you got the right person, and if you didn't how are you different then the criminal? This is especially true when its life and death because you cannot amend death, there is no coming back from it. So I would say it would be wrong if you actively hunted the person down for it, if however you caught them in the act and ended up killing them on accident you did no wrong because you did it unintentionally and for the purpose of saving a person from them. If you caught them in the act and you lost control and killed the person in the attempt to save the other person then I think that's a grey area but I would still side with the person not the rapist. Otherwise there are simply to many other factors to accurately determine if the person commited the crime or not.

  • Not for the crime of rape alone. There would need to be extenuating circumstances. For many strictly practical reasons I'm generally not in favor of capital punishment. I prefer life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. I'm willing to make an exception for trolls.

  • It depends. The people who rape children deserve to die. The people who rape infants/babies deserve to DOUBLE die. Violent rapes also perhaps. But all others I think just deserve some serious prison time. But it really depends on the situation.

    For brutal rape like I first described, then yes. Death is appropriate. If the woman were to have shot him, then it would be justifiable homicide, so execute him anyway. For women who knowingly go with a man and then decides she doesn't want to have happened what happened, then no, she needs to shoulder some of the responsibility for her own predicament.

  • There is never any excuse for rape. When you rape someone, you change them forever. It is such a violation of another human being, you no longer deserve to live. It is the easiest thing to just NOT RAPE SOMEONE.
