Is a 15 year old a child? If she voluntarily engages in sexual intercourse, does it count as abuse?

  • In the US, the Age Of Consent varies by state from 16 to 18. In several of the states where the AoC is 18, there are "Romeo & Juliet" laws that exempt an older person as long as they were within 2 or 3 years of the younger person. Meaning, in a state where "within 3 years" was the law, an 18-year-old could legally sleep with a 15-year-old, but a 19-year-old could not.

Having said that, historically, women have always gotten into relationships and had sex for the first time in their mid-teens, and AoC laws used to reflect this. Until the 1970s, AoC laws in the US were anywhere from 13 to 16, and it was not at all unusual for girls who were 15 to get married (for example: both of my grandmothers). If you read any actual history book that discusses marriage, from anywhere in the world, 15 or 16 were common marriage ages for women. It wasn't until the 1970s that Feminists pushed state governments to raise the AoC, with Texas being the last state to do so in 1992 (it was 14 until then). Written history, which goes back about 8000 years, confirms young marriage as the norm, and so does anthropology, which goes back at least half a million years. Modern laws are the ones that are disconnected from biological reality - but then, so is so much else of society today.

  • It still is abuse, legally, until you're of the age of consent.

Older people can very very easily convince younger people of almost everything. It's important to keep your head on straight to avoid possible hurt, frustration, danger, depression, whatever.

Even if you want it emotionally, you may not have all the facts (even if you think you do). It's a perspective thing, and people who have had sexual experience can very easily convince those who have not into anything.

A sexual relationship with an older person can be too much to cope with. It's not good for developing children.

  • Yes. 15 year olds are legally and emotionally and experientially children. They are sexually mature children and of course they may want sex, but adults who engage in sex with them are statutory rapists according to the law. Adults are TAKING ADVANTAGE of these children's childish desires to do something that feels good, feels adult, feels fun. It's not abuse. It's simply child rape. And the adult, if caught, or revealed to have done so, will end up in prison.

  • Yes. Definitely. 15 is too young. That being said, I do think 15 year olds should be allowed to have sex with other 15 year olds. It’s just that adults shouldn’t be allowed to have sex with them.

    • Exactly

  • It below age of consent in my country, but there are countries in the world where it's legal.

  • Yes, a 15yr old is legally and mentally a child. Therefore, a 15yr old cannot legally give consent, nor can anyone accept that consent.

  • It is illegal in the US and many countries.

I think the entire "age of consent" concept needs review, and I'd like to see laws updated, but the issue is so touchy that I'm uneasy even suggesting things.

    • Same here, but you are right

  • Legally she's a minor and unable to give consent in most places. But in most places that is an exception for couples who are close in age. So it could be legal for a 16-year-old to have sex with her but illegal for an 18-year-old.

  • She's still under the age of consent so by law no matter how many times she agreed, it's still against the law

  • I have heard here on GAG, that some girls had sexual intercourse younger than 15, and some as young as 13. My first sexual intercourse was with a girl of 16 and I was 20, and I know she had sex before that, and it was voluntary, with a High School guy. The Age of Consent in Ohio is 16, so I would not have had a problem had anyone found out.

Depends on the age of consent where you live.

  • Yes to both

  • How old is her partner? 15? 65? It may have to do with exploration or coercion. But two 15 year old's are just horny and curious.

    • For instance 22?

  • A 15 year old is a minor. Sex with a minor is statutory rape. Shame on you.

    • Lol shame on someone for asking a question

  • It's tricky that. Here the sexual age is 16. But it's still viewed as tabboo if someone a lot older have sex with someone that age. It's much better and if they are at least 18. But there two the older the other person the less ok it is. So the magic mark is in their 20s.

  • That would depend on the age of consent in the municipality in which it occurs, or the county and/or state, in the absence of any muni laws. If the individual is under the age of consent, it is typically considered abuse, regardless of any "consent", explicit, implied, or inferred.

  • I let the law decide it.

  • In the UK it counts as having sex with a minor but it is not treated as serious as rape or sex with girls under 13 which is automatic rape

  • Yes it does. Even if she initiates it. Thats called statutory rape. Also if they are same age.

  • I'd say you're a child until 18, but you're still a kid until you're at least 26. I mean let's be real here.

  • yes by law is its abuse and not legal ,,

  • It doesn't count as abuse as long as parental consent is given beforehand

  • Emotionally, probably. Legally, it depends upon where you live.

  • In UK yes, legally they are considered to be a child,,,

  • In the US. That person is a child.
