Is being photographed nude ok if it's for art?

A friend of mine asked me to be his model for his photography course and I said yes because I like to help people, I was asked to undress and then he directed me into different poses while taking photos, it was quite fun really

A couple of days later he sent them to me for approval, they're not bad honestly, most don't show any private parts and my face is rather obscured, I've asked him not to credit me as the model and hopefully I don't get recognised.

I've included some of the less revealing ones, do you think these look acceptable? I'm nervous about them being seen or even displayed

  • Acceptable is subjective, even if you had remembered to post them in the question, you'll likely get mixed answers, regardless of how you look or how the photos present you.

When you make art, you have to accept 2 things:
    1. Not everyone will like the art.
    2. The ones who do like it, often won't share your reasons for liking it.

There are going to be people who think it's platonically beautiful art, others will think it's not art at all and is just inappropriate or sexy, others will think its art, but also porn (in that porn can be a type of art), and others still just won't care.

    • Posting my reply (to you insisting people won't be able to recognize you after I said your face was visible enough to) here since your repost that included the pictures got removed: Maybe. I can clearly see your face, but I also don't know what you look like normally. If you managed to conceal that via makeup and styling, bravo, thats pretty clever. You see a lot of that in professional cosplay models, a lot of them look very different in real life because of how much makeup they apply, as well as using wigs, body suits, costume elements, etc.

    • I normally don't wear makeup at all, and I wear different glasses and I'm normally dressed rather conservatively, I don't think I will be recognized at all

    • Then I wouldn't worry.

  • Being photographed nude is totally up to the person being photographed. If you are legally an adult and you wish to be photographed nude, go for it. As for showing or displaying the photos, that depends on who can see them. Art or not, photos that reveal certain parts of your body are prohibited on this site and many others. I am pretty sure you know that and that is why I suspect a tease here. Specifically that you did not "forget" to post the photos. A good joke, though. :-)

    • Actually I reposted the question with the pictures on lol

    • Where? I am still seeing only this post of this question.

    • I see that another on here did see your repost (and that it did get removed). My apologies for doubting you. I will also accept his evaluation of the shoot and your looks and congratulate you for those.

  • I don't see anything wrong with it at all.

  • The line is very fine there.

If the content is truly artistic in a classy sense then no problem.
But if it crosses into the trashy art then it could ruin your career or come back to haunt you when you have kids and they see it.

And yeah art is subjective, but when it comes to your own future you need to look at things objectivly for your own good

  • If you're comfortable then yes, go for it! (No pictures were attached, though)

    • Yeah lol I forgot to attach them

  • Just be careful to whom you are distributing it. There are many people who will use it to do "sextortion". Make sure it's someone you know you trust, and isn't solely trying to get gain or hurt you.

  • Absolutely ok. A woman’s body is the most beautiful thing in the world. Mother Nature got that one right!!

  • If the subject is an adult, it's ok for any reason whatsoever.

  • A girl I knew was asked to be a model and she was really excited and pleased in a complimented way.

After a few sessions she had second thoughts and asked for her photos back but was told they are our copyright so no. I don't know how you get digital pics back anyway.

I don't think female nude shots should concern you too much.

    • Well the guy taking the photos is my best friend, if I changed my mind he would 100% delete the pictures

    • Well that good. And if they are fine art pictures you should keep them forever as your body will be at it's finest

  • Nude pics are kind of pointless to me. I know how a woman looks like.

Just a few ''artistic'' exceptions like this one could catch my interest:

  • Sounds very cool and great you had fun with it. I think as long as you enjoy it, who is to say it is not ok... enjoy!

    P. S. Would love to see the photos if you are still looking for opinions... I predict I would find them absolutely awesome :)

  • I would have formal legal documentation in place so that you don't get your private blasted all over the internet, but artsy photographs generally aren't an issue.

  • Let's be real... You probably like it because it makes you feel sexy 🤷‍♂️

    • Partially yeah, it's nice to feel sexy, but it was fun to feel like a model too

    • Yeah that too

  • Well the naked truth is always better than the best-dressed lie.

  • I think so or even for a boyfriend seems pretty hot.

  • Nude photos done tastefully can be art, and photos of women with clothes on can look pretty slutty, depending on the pose.

  • Sounds like a lot of fun…

  • Don't post nudes on this site, It will get deleted immediately.

    • It's not nudes it's nude art

    • Ok, lol.

  • I think as long as you're comfortable with the photographer it is okay to be photographed nude. You can always share the images with us via dm. Maybe for those who ask nicely.

  • It depends if you have a partner ask them before doing that cuz there going to want to be present

  • Sure.

  • Art is art - and this seems like pure art. It's okay, I would guess.
