So! Wonderful and insightful people, share your wisdom with me on this! Need or want?

I don't think it's that straightforward. There's a difference between sexual intercourse and sexual release. I think (and I could be wrong, am only talking from my own experience), that men generally need release more than women, and that men are aroused a lot more easily than women. I think women link sexual intercourse to emotions, in a way that men probably don't. In that respect, I think women welcome sexual intercourse as part of a relationship because it is literally more of a "making love" thing with their partner. In the case of me and my b/f we "make love" quite often, and I think it definitely brings us closer to each other outside the bedroom, but I know he just needs to cum sometimes, nothing to do with love or emotion, but because I love him I'm happy to let him bang me for his own relief (sometimes), or give him hand-jobs to get him off. I know it differs from person to person, and I also know my own observations definitely don't reflect the needs/wants of every individual or couple, but in my case I think sexual intercourse is a want rather than a need, with no need for further sexual release, but in my b/f's case he definitely wants sex with me often, but also needs to "shoot his load" quite often whether it be as part of intercourse or not.
That’s a very insightful way to look at it. Thank you
Wow, i really love your answer. You much detail and logic. I totally agree 😌 with you
Something I’d do to reproduce, keep the guy happy, and occasionally receive pleasure in return. I mean its good but i could live without it. So its not really a need or want. Now kiddie shit like making out and having him finger me and suck my tits... now those are the wants I need 😝
I mean the dude could just cum in a cup and hand it over. But i’m nice enough to give into sex to reproduce 😂
Always insightful lol
So i think there is a common misconception here in definition. Sexual intercourse doe not mean sexual release and sexual release does not mean intimacy. As men we tend to think that intercourse is the climax of all. That is not true. Most woman can’t cum from intercourse alone and need a man who can give them stimulation while also giving the attention to all the body that gives that climax. Meanwhile a lot of people both girls and guys get confused on the idea that climax equals intimacy. And that also isn’t true. So girls need intimacy and often want climax to achieve that but don’t often want intercourse to bring that about guys want the intimacy and need the climax and assume that intercourse is the have all get all. So In short you need to recognize that sexual intercourse is fun but not the kittens caboodle and you need to realize that sex is made up of a lot more then just sticking your dick in. Play with her tease her talk to her enjoy being naked and just sitting together. Enjoy teasing her to orgasume without any intention of getting anything back for it. Try to go a few days without any orgasume yourself and just tease the crap out of her the whole time.
Great explanation, love it bro!
Thanks!
Thanks for the MHO
it is both... and it is also much more than that
you can need sexual intercourse in order to procreate
you can also want sexual intercourse for the pleasure and all the great it can be
you can also desire sexual intercourse, to take those bonds and that connection to even greater levels when you're in love
it does not have to be just one or the other, they should not be mutually exclusive... many people might want it for just one of those reasons and that's okay for them... and it might be a different thing for others who want it to be both and even more than just that
Well balanced answer

Lol fair enough, I guess we do need it
I think of a "need" as something that is necessary to support my continued life. If it is a need and it is not fulfilled, then I die.
I love sex but lack of sex is never going to kill someone.
Exactly.
It's 100% a WANT. Nobody NEEDS to get laid, and personally, I don't like the idea of recreational sex. I think it's a vice and hat mostly only weak willed people do it (regarding those having sex outside of committed relationships). It's pathetic, personally speaking.
Complicated question. Overall i say Need.
When u look at it as an individual its a want. When you look at it for the entire human race its a need.
an individual doesn't need sex to survive , but if everyone stopped having sex and reproduction stopped wed become extinct pretty quickly
I mean in terms of humans as a species, before all the motivational talk and becoming successful and blablabla, factually we're here for 2 things, our own survival and the survival of the species, so basically food and water and safety from danger and diseases and then sex, so yes it's definitely a need, well unless you're gay then it's a want
Interesting how the percentages are shaping up on this question/poll.. with men basically divided 50/50, but nearly 75% of women saying sex is not a ‘need’, but a ‘want’. This goes to show the difference between men and women where sexual release is concerned. Men don’t just want sexual release, they actually do really need it. And if they don’t take care of it in their waking hours, their body will do it for them at night via nocturnal emissions (a. k. a. ‘wet dreams’). Women, on the other hand, don’t have this physical need for release with their genitalia, so, for them, sexual release really isn’t a ‘need’ per se.
actually its both for me
it's a want because you won't die if you don't have sex but you will die if you don't eat, sleep, drink water, laugh, and be happy.
It's a biological need. Studies prove that obviously creatures are made to produce off spring. And there is also proof it will increase longevity of your life, at least for humans. Some creatures have the opposite reaction such as doing the act to die right away common in insects.
However you can reject such need without dying. But if doing so it can have a lot of mental impacts and reduce your life span.
It's a need but that has freewill involved really.
Just the same way humans socialising works? Now could you just stop socialising with humans sure, would you live sure. But your life span and mental health will be effected so essentially it is a need.
Want.
You can live without sex
Need. It is a need.
It's a bit of both. There's an innate part of us that needs to procreate, and also a desire to enjoy sex.
It is in the middle somewhere. I believe that our DNA has caused us to be addicted to sex beginning at puberty. It is not quite a need and it is not quite a want.
A solid "both" for me.
It is a want in a relationship.
It is a want and a need in order to reproduce you need to have sex but lots of people love having sex because it feels good so it's also I want
It's an instinct?
on a side note: the term ''want'' -as far as I'm informed- originates in not having something... (as in: lacking of s/th)
A need.
Why is it a need?
Absolutely!!
A need is something you require in order to function. You don’t need sex to function you can live without it.
So I’d classify it as a want.
