Is it a bad thing to use masturbating as a coping mechanism?

I've been taking breaks from it when i catch myself doing it more as a stress reliever than as just a release when i’m super horny. I think it’s a bad habit when you get into a routine of doing it like that.

  • Not as a coping mechanism but don't deny it all the way, practice nofap, not for destroying the need to masturbate but to use sexuality moderately in your life. I could never talk to women, not even honestly about how I felt watching porn a lot and it stunted me as a person, but getting into a relationship with a girl, I realized too that denying sexuality completely isn't healthy either cause I was not respectful with her needs before mine, I learned the hard way you need a healthy balance. Go work out when you need to cope or do something that keeps you active, give everything a try to before masturbation

  • What is the difference between a stress reliever and a release? Are you doing it too often in your opinion? 20 times a week would be overkill. And why are you so stressed? That might be the base question...

    • OK. That is a problem. Like eating when not hungry. Indicates addiction. Talk to a therapist. This doesn't seem to be about sex, but about what you're stressed about. Using sex to blot out the stress. Call your primary care person for suggestions. Get a male therapist who'll have a bit more insight on male issues.

  • I'm off the opinion that masturbation is wrong... not from a moral standpoint, but that it's just destructive to the person who does it. Get a partner and have sex, find other ways to deal with stress. There's nothing wrong with not getting a release when you're horny, in fact it's very natural.

  • Doing anything too much can be a bad thing. Masturbating a normal amount is fine but like multiple times a day or something is way to much.

  • Well I'm almost 37 and my hormones are goofy now so when I wna do it, I really wna do it! But unfortunately my husband sometimes likes to make love to his Miller Lite also 🙄 ... so I gta do it myself.
