It's only as nasty as you perceive it to be. You can have sex on your period too, as long as neither of you are bothered by the mess it should be no problem. It really is a matter of personal opinion. I've received head on my period as well, but I do always make sure that I am clean and honestly, no guy should ever go near the blood area when giving head.. None of this should be a problem or nasty.
Periods are natural, for one, and secondly you're not using his leg as a tampon. I assume you have a tampon in and clothing on, so it's not really gross in my opinion.
