Back in high school, I dated a girl whose father wouldn't let her have boyfriends. So, once I verified she'd otherwise go out with me, I said "Fine, then I'll be your girlfriend". I decided to dress the part for our date, basically as a joke, but it turned her on, so I kept doing it. It wasn't entirely one-sided, either; the feeling of satin running over sensitive skin is far too nice a thing to leave to only one gender, and in addition to the general joy of being a wiseass, there was something fun about feeling a little girly once in a while. The relationship ended badly, and I gave up the outfits; too many bad memories. But if you're worried about what it might mean for him, I, at least, am completely straight, very psychologically masculine (maybe that's what made dressing otherwise so appealing), and I actually know how to clean some very delicate fabrics without damaging them, so hey, bonus.
