Is it normal to be turned on in such a situation?

I'm a sports medic. I attend track meets as an emergency personnel on standby.

There was a case where a pole vaulter hit the bar with his privates, and was in obvious pain when he landed. I was quick to respond but I had no idea where he got hit. When I got to him, he was covering his face with his hands (common reaction to pain), and rolling to his sides in distress. He told me he hit his privates. It's instinctive of emergency responders to look immediately at the patient's area in pain. The guy was wearing track uniforms like these, and I saw a clear shape of his privates.

There is no specific protocol for cases like this. We follow the standard protocol which is to check and give first aid (if needed) to the injured area before transferring to the doctors. So I looked out for any bleeding or torn uniforms (in which case it may have penetrated, causing an open injury), there was no bleeding and the uniform wasn't torn (I just looked, there was no touching if you're wondering LOL) so there was nothing else I needed to do.

He was overwhelmed with pain when I got to him, I couldn't do a good examination because he was curling up on his sides. But as his pain subsided and became less overwhelming, I told him to lay in a supine position (flat on his back, facing up) so I could do a proper examination.

When he was curling up initially, I was a clear bulge (but no defined shape). But when he laid flat on his backs afterwards, that was a sight I'd never forget, a clear outline of his entire dick. And that although he was still constantly moving his legs in pain, the entire shape of his dick was clearly visible throughout.

The adrenaline of the emergency situation kept me professional throughout. But after that, I find myself turned on by the situation and the sight. I have to admit though, he looked really attractive, fit and athletic.

Is it normal to be turned on in such a situation or am I being unprofessional?

  • No I don't think you were behaving unprofessionally. What we notice is usually beyond our control. You didn't mention if he had a hard on or it. I'm not sure what you are worried about since in any situation II would have noticed a similar situation but with a woman. I would imagine that you associated the bulge with sex and that ruined you on regardless of the situation. .. You could possibly have made the guys day by stroking it gently/Pain is often offset by arousa, l and is often part of arousal

    • I didn't exactly associate the bulge with sex. But he was a stranger, and it felt like I shouldn't be seeing something so private about to such details. Okay he wasn't naked technically, but at the same time you don't see that much detail in normal clothings eitther.

  • It is normal and therte was not much you could have done anyway. I work in an Emergency Department and we see naked people all the time... sure some of the women are beautiful... but I stay professional and at times after work I do think about it... we are human after all!!!

    • Yeah, and he for sure wasn't naked. If anything, he could even considered to be fully clothed as he didn't show more skin than what a normal guy in tank top and shorts would show. However, just look at those uniforms, it's really showing every bit of his body.

  • It looks like you did a great job. I guess he was fine after that thank to you.

And the fact that you are asking yourself if you did the right thing shows you are a good human being.

    • Took a couple of minutes to recover, but he was fine. He was clearly in a lot of pain so I didn't rush him as well. At the very least the pole vault mat gave him a comfy place to lay on while he was in a lot of pain lol. But yeah, the sight I saw during my assessment was something I wasn't expecting before that.

    • Yes of course but it looks like it is a common injury for guys in sports, so I guess you'll become used to it soon

    • Not exactly the most common, but certainly not the rarest either. But I guess it's less about the injury and more about the outfits he's wearing. If it was, say, a pair of jeans or loose shorts, there wouldn't be any obvious shape or outlines, helps you ignore the fact that you're looking at a guy's crotch. But in these uniforms, there's no escape. Lol.

  • Not sure if normal but wouldn't call it unprofessional, provided you acted professional through the whole thing.

  • Perfectly normal. Professionalism is about ACTIONS, not desires, and it sounds rike you handled it just fine.

    • The adrenaline of such a situation would almost always keep you focused. But I guess what happened and what you saw during the situation registers in your mind and comes back to hit you afterwards lol.

  • I never had any referee running over to me when the ⚽️ was driven into my Nads. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Totally normal. I am guessing he may even secretly like you. Well not so secretly now lol

  • Girlll... u got distracted 😂😂

  • Yeah take out the trauma to his junk, just seen the outline of some guy's cock through his tight pants should be a turn on for you. Something you can go home and lay in bed this evening and play with yourself reminiscing about it

  • If I was in the same situation, I’d probably get flustered too.

  • Yes. Normal and you handled it properly

    • But never had I thought I would be turned on by such a situation, but I did. Lol.

    • You are allowed to have feelings and emotions, as long as you showed self restraint

  • I think it's ok but don't ask me to explain. May have something to do with compassion like a nurse.

  • Yes, it's normal

  • Finding the person attractive is normal. Getting aroused when you see them reeling in pain is probably not as normal.

  • Yes, it is certainly within the range that we would consider "normal".

  • Sounds normal. We’re all human. I’m glad he’s ok. Did it make you wet then or later? It can probably make for a good fantasy now. Even if I was in pain, I might have looked at you if I was him.

  • I think…totally normal…how could you not be turned on…

  • In other words, you're gay. Okay, and?

  • Lol you're gonna have a wet carrier

    • Lol thoughts only came later, not during the emergency.

    • Haha I know what you did when reached home

  • perfectly normal

  • You are unprofessional

  • You can't be professional mentally all the time. As long as you remain so physically, it's okay.

  • Don't stress yourself about it, it's normal to feel this way, you're just a human being in the end.

  • Normal, and good you stayed professional.
