Is my doctor being inappropriate?

I went in for bug bites. I had a lot of them and we realized that they were probably from fleas because my boyfriend's family cat had a bad case of them. They let the cat lay in the bed where I sleep during visits (but we didn't know about it until I kept waking up with bumps). So I went to see my doc because I had developed swollen lymph nodes in my groin, which made me think I may possibly have a little infection. So he was asking me about what happened and I told him I sleep in such and such room and the cat and etc. So he asks "were you naked?" And I said "Um no, I sleep in pajamas, and they were pretty loose." Then he asked why I went out of town and what was I doing. I told him that I was visiting my boyfriend and he says "Were you having a lot of sex?" I said no (which was true) but I don't think he believed me because he kinda laughed. He also didn't explain to me what that had to do with anything, which would be the right thing to do. I'm just suspicious of him since my first pap smear when he asked me which speculum was closest to my boyfriend's penis size.

  • He could genuinely have been trying to clear up any other factors before accepting fleas as the route cause. Sleeping naked could have exposed your genital area to parasites, bed bugs, etc. Or even the fleas that you mention.

Having a lot of sex could have prompted some kind of reaction and could also throw sexually transmitted diseases into the equation.

Asking which speculum is closest to the size of something that you are already used to having penetrate you might be considered a question to assist your comfort.

On the other hand, he could just be a raging pervert. I am not saying either way because I don't know, I'm just playing devil's advocate. If you want to be really sure then ask another doctor, preferably a female one this time and see what her opinion is of his techniques.

    • Yeah I'm not trying to outright call him a pervert or anything because I really don't know. I did ask older women, even a nurse in my family about the speculum question and she said that he had no reason to ask me that, and the other women had never heard of it. So either he's a little off or his communication needs some work because it's easily taken the wrong way.

  • Insect bites? Didn't you hear about https://www.cdc.gov/zika/about/index.html ?

    Your doctor CERTAINLY did.
    A lot of sex? www.cdc.gov/.../sexual-transmission.html

    • Yes I understand what point you're trying to make, but I had zero symptoms of zika.

    • It's a doctor's job to verify it.

    • If he really wanted to verify and was suspecting of it then he probably would've given me a test. He told me I had no fever, which is the first thing they check for, and that my lymph swelling will probably go down in a little while so I should be fine. I had been bitten days ago and if I had zika I probably would have had zika symptoms by then. Not trying to fuss with you or anything, i'm just saying :). But thank you for your input.
