Is sex between people who are older/younger than 18 acceptable or is that age just a line in the sand?

So I was having a conversation with someone who seemed to be saying that anyone who's over 18 and has sex with someone who's under 18 is a pedophile who is sexually abusing the partner. Regardless of gender.

So yea what do you think about a 16 year old guy having his way with a girl in her 20's? Does that automatically mean he's being abused? What if the genders are flipped?

Omg what a liar, I never said if they are under 18 they are automatically being abused. I said people think it's wrong and consider it pedophilia.

If it's legal and consentual, I don't care. It's their thing, but it is wrong.

  That's where we disagree. That's here it happened. I think its completely the other way around. Guys want one thing, it's the women who usually want more. Guys know that about women that's why they get played so much. Like if anything that kid is an asshole lol. You really don't think he knew that if they got caught she would get hauled off to jail and nothing would happen to him? I've seen these things play out before. That's why it's so annoying to see that when the glove is on the other hand and finally it should be recognized, you still call the younger person a victim. Like that's bullshit lol. But I'll definitely check out your other opinions and questions. I'm not trying to tell be a dick or anything. Just want to wrap my head around what you're saying because I genuinely don't understand where it comes from when people talk like this. And I feel like it's such an emotional topic for some people that a real discussion is never really had.

  I don't know how to be any more clear : If a older person has sex with a someone under 18; regardless of gender, not only is it not necessarily pedophilia but it's not wrong as long as nobody's using their life experience/power from a greater age to swindle the younger person into sexual interactions. If someone is old enough to understand what they're doing, then it's on them who they decide to have sex with. A 16 year old having sex with someone older than 18, even if that other person is more than 25 is not always a victim. And the law shouldn't be treating it that way. More times than not it's just two weirdos being weird, and that's fine. Yes, preditors should be punished. But the simple act of being over 18 and having sex with someone under 18 does not make you a predictor, pedophile or even a bad person.

Just take a couple of two people age 17, now one of them turns 18, and even though nothing in their relationship changes, suddenly he becomes a pedophile... and only until the other partner turns 18...

Well the example you gave of 16 and 20 isn't illegal everywhere, several states have the age of consent at 16 as well as a lot of countries. But I kinda think it would be weird reguardless of gender.

I think the age is just a reference number to go buy it since everybody matures differently but since it is the law you don’t really have much choice on what it’s considered
