Is the depo shot being dangerous common knowledge where you are?

Hi strange question I know😅I’m currently studying nursing and we’ve went over different BCs and their risks and where I’m from you cannot be on depo for more than 2 years and only in extenuating circumstances is it even an option for women. The more I’ve spoken to some friends from around the world I’ve realised people don’t know the risks and dangers with it so I was wondering what you all know

  • The depo shot along with hpv shot is deadly in some cases. In other cases they cause many other complications including permanent sterilization, all kinds of permanent neurological issues, inflammation of the heart and brain, etc. I have met many women who wish they would have never allowed themselves to have these shots. Other women have had to watch the suffering of their daughters and can’t forgive themselves for letting their dr talk them into it.

Where I come from, many people are well studied up on the dangers of these shots including depo, hpv, and even covid. The VAERS data is quite clear and troubling. The risks aren’t worth it. Once injected, you can’t go back!

    • Let’s not bring a life saving vaccine that stops 97% of cervical cancer cases to a dangerous BC shot. I’m not going to engage your anti vax bullshit when it has no place.

    • I’m not going to try to convince you. You seem to know all it from what it sounds like. But the numbers do not lie! Don’t take my word for it. It’s not about being anti-VAX. It’s about at least looking at the other side of the argument for the sake of your own health and of others. You are the one who will lose out, not me. You asked a question, I gave you an answer. You don’t have to be a jerk about it!

    • You didn’t give me an answer. You gave me a rant about why you don’t believe women should receive a life saving vaccine that prevents them from suffering a horrific and terrible cancer. I’m not a know it all but I do know more than you about this specific topic, however you do seem like you pretend to know things from ‘your own research’ that isn’t real research. .

  • I think all hormonal birth controls are riskier than we are told really artificial hormones aren’t healthy but because the risk is pregnancy otherwise it’s seen as a reasonable option. I had the shot and the nexplanon (arm implant) I was so unwell with the arm one and I was getting worse and worse until it was removed.

    • I agree that BC is very under studied and far riskier than it should be and I’m so sorry you had such a negative experience with the implant! That must have been awful, personally I adore mine but I know it’s kinda the marmite of BC. I will say pregnancy isn’t necessarily safe nor something we should be risking but condoms and other non hormonal options are always an option and no less than others.

    • Yes it makes me mad when I see the celeb endorsed ads for the implant and no real mention of side effects (all other medical ads list every possible side effect). It’s really unpleasant to remove too different doctors were digging around in my arm for an hour trying to reach it.

    • I’m so sorry! It should not have been that way, this is my third implant and removal has never taken more than 30 seconds from incision to new one in. You should honestly contact someone about that and see if you can have anything for malpractice

  • The only negatives I've ever heard about it are that it's not always effective and you can gain slot of weight. I went with mirena over depo since my last child and I wish I'd have just gone with the pill at this point
