Is this ok for friends with benefits?

I've been casually hooking up with this guy since August last year. At one point we were seeing each other on a weekly basis. He's been going through a difficult time lately. Recently he told me his mother was sick with Cancer, he got laid off from work. And then he was assaulted by his friend of 10 years after he let her and her kid move in with him.

I told him to let me know if he needs help with anything, and he said he would. I know Friends with benefits is only about sex. But I guess I'm just trying to be a friend to him regardless of sex. I mean sometimes people have a difficult time and may need a friend. I am just thinking about myself and how I would feel if I were going through a difficult time.

  If he doesn't ask for your help or ask for you to talk or hang out. Things like that. He's going through a difficult time, he may just want to be left alone. I don't know him or his personality, so he may or may not call you at all.

  Obviously, I know he's going through a difficult time hence the reason why I told him to let me know if he needs help with anything. I'm not sure why you're saying he won't call me or ask me to hang out etc when you don't even know him. I'm trying to be a friend to him and I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Sometimes people need a friend you don't know him personally to say what he will and will not do.

  Friends with benefits or no strings attached it's hard for me to consider even my ex-wife told me I wear my heart on my sleeve. So I don't really try to hook up with women with a no strings attached or friends with benefits per say looking at how I can be you know I get attached too easy to their problems my problems sharing helping and caring. I'm not judging him or you you could possibly be there for him and not even do a thing for him. Him knowing that you offered is usually more than him coming to you for help.
