  • Between my adult son and I, we are pretty aboveboard. Between my parents and me, very little was said, I read books and the grammar school, Catholic by the way, I attended had general sex education classes by 5th grade!!! Wise of them.

Dad did tell some wild stories about WWII and the transvestite he danced with that he didn't know was a transvestite, the 6 foot tall Belgian woman who he had a fist fight in the snow with because he was eyeing her friend, and a few other comments over the years. Mom was uptight.

I tried to be the opposite because I appreciate knowledge and wanted my son to protect himself and not become an early father. He's made it to 28!

  • Not really. I've discussed certain things briefly with my mum just in terms of physical health but that was more conversations about birth control etc. Otherwise everyone pretty much keeps to themselves in that respect.

    • @alli39 sounds very much traditional family?

    • @MasterKS More or less, but part of it was that I was really awkward and very much not sexually active for a long time. I never got "the talk" officially because I didn't want to and my mum basically trusted me to figure it out and ask if there was something I couldn't. I'm not sure it's actually ideal since I think part of the reason I hesitated for so long was because I wasn't in a space that was open, but I'm responsible for that as much as anyone.

  • When I was a teen we were pretty open. No explicit details but my older sister and I talked about sex with each other a lot and in more detail than with our parents.

    • My parents covered a lot of things but never mentioned masturbation... which I was doing several times a day at the time.

  • Absolutely not.

I am open to talking about sex. Other family members, to me, seem to want to rather die than talk about sex. Which sucks the life out of me.
