Ladies; How does a baby come out of a woman?

Ladies, the only thing I wonder is, do the doctors cut the woman's vagina at natural birth? How is that baby born from the tight vagina?

  • Whether or not they cut the vagina depends on how badly she's starting to tear. A clean controlled incision is easier to repair than a jagged tear. It also depends on if they need to get the baby out quick due to potentially fatal complications and they don't have time to move to the operating room or a c-section would be overkill. Sometimes they make a cut just to speed up the process.

As for how it comes out of such a small tight hole, you'd be surprised how stretchy it is. I've never had a child, never will, but back when I was uploading pics to a now defunct web site my most popular pics were of my vag with objects the size of a small newborn's head inserted. And after I took the object out it went right back down to normal size. That's at normal non-pregnancy hormone levels. During pregnancy a woman's body produces hormones that have all sorts of effects, such as allowing muscles to stretch beyond what they could normally handle and the pelvis can even separate to a degree that would put a man in a wheelchair for life if it happened to him.

    • Thanks for very detailed comment... I think you are mum as well..

  • There's C - section or cesarean section, it's a surgical delivery of a baby through incisions in the abdomen and uterus.
And there's vaginal delivery, a birth of a baby through the vagina, and for this there's no incision though. Occurs during uterus contraction, the cervix expands and the vagina widens as a passage for the baby come out. Obviously at the time of delivery, the vagina isn't "tight".

  • When the baby is fully mature, the baby along with the placenta causes fetal ejection reflex which stimulates the posterior pituitary to release oxytocin. The oxytocin goes and contracts the uterine muscles in order to push the baby out. This is in the case of natural birth.

  • Sometimes, a woman's vagina does have to be cut, if the baby is too large to fit through it.

    • I had to have this procedure done when I gave birth because my baby was over 9 pounds.
