“Men’s instincts tend toward polygamy, women’s toward hypergamy." Agree or disagree?

Whereas all men have a natural urge to copulate with a great variety of fertile women (because, in our evolutionary history, such behavior improved our chances of gene proliferation), women have a corresponding biological drive to have relations with the highest quality man they possibly can (for the same reason) and to gain exclusive commitment from that man.

Briefly put, men want a lot of women, women want one really great guy.

  • Hmm. I'm a monogamous loser so my opinion would be null?

  • yeah

  • Agree... but I ain't got time for that shit. Also, the one time in my life that I had any sort of multiple encounter (threesome), the two girls weren't into one another at all. So I had to do everything myself all night long with no breaks. I blew through four bottles of Gatorade. It was like a fucking homework assignment...

  • Disagree. I just want a woman that loves me for the rest of my life. And right now, I'm almost sure that will never happen...

    • thats because you have a mangina

    • I'm sorry if I'm not a fuckboy. Is that what you expected me to be?

    • I am not a "fuckboy", I just don't put women on a pedestal.. stop being so soft and desperate and you may actually get some..

  • This is really a complicated topic.

Yes, because of natural origions, men tend to want to fuck any woman that crosses her path, and that woman naturally wants that strong man because she wants a protector for the child.

Or, maybe that's not true at all.

Studies have found that both men and women have a hard time staying monogomus at about the same rate, despite what you're led to believe. Just imagine, at the begining of every new relationship, they guy and girl are so infatuated with each other that they probably don't bat an eye at another attractive person for some time. There are exceptions, but this is probably true in the earliest stages of romantic relationships.

Then the mundane sets in. AFter the honeymoon phase wears out, its back to the daily grind. While some people may truly love their partners, even women still look at attractive men (or women, even). They want to populate with a different set of genes than they already have (or at least that is one possible reason).

It's all chemistry and evolution, so we do have primal instincts still. The only difference is we now have a concept of human dignity. We sometimes call it "human rights." It's basically this self-awarness that we are more intelligent than the simple beasts that we once were, and we should continue to better ourselves for the good of society, if not just to not be an asshole.

  • I disagree, I only want one.

Polygamy hurts people, I've been there.

  • it sounds accurate to me

  • More or less.

  • Disagree

  • Depends on the person. I'm personally the type of guy that wants one girl to have a meaningful connection with.
