Most recent Gallup Poll shows that 7.1% of the USA is LGBTQ? Thoughts? Is this a positive or negative thing?

https://news.gallup.com/poll/389792/lgbt-identification-ticks-up.aspx

This includes roughly 5.4% of men, and 9.5% of women. It is also nearly double the size of the first Gallup Poll nearly 5 years ago. The CDC also has done similar reports, and found that roughly 5.5% of male youth, and 16.8% of female youth reported being homosexual or bisexual

There are other studies from the CDC as well that showed that 3.6% of men, and 7.2% of women reported being LGBTQ. This statistic has increased dramatically, for these reports are only from 2015, the more recent ones show about a double increase. Not to mention 20.8% of women, and 7.3% of men reporting same sex partners, and 23.2% of women, and 9.4% of men reporting attraction that could be classified as LGBTQ.

Many other studies show the same thing,

For example the German group Dalia, which did a Europe wide study, it found that the German LGBTQ population was roughly 7.4%, with roughly 6.4% of men, and 8.4% of women being LGBTQ. The Netherlands had the most significant difference, with 2.5% of men, and 10.3% of women reporting being LGBTQ. Throughout all of Europe there were more LGBTQ women than men. This marked a great increase in the LGBTQ community from previous reports.

I want to highlight that this shows major growths from previous years. In most cases the LGBTQ population has more than doubled in just the previous 5 years. In younger generations, its even more prevalent, where 20.8% of Gen Z identifies as LGBTQ alone. I believe this included roughly 10% of Gen Z boys, and 30% of Gen Z girls. What is your take on this?

I will openly state my opinion This is a very positive thing! :) Feel free to disagree.

  • Everything you say is based on an assumption that the polling numbers are accurate. In 2016, the polls said Hillary Clinton would win the election easily, but she lost. You shouldn't automatically believe everything that someone tells you simply because they attach numbers to their results.

    • You could say that about data on any subject. If you just assume that all polls and data are false then how else are we supposed to get information about certain topics? 🤷‍♂️

    • @JustinTheGreat "You could say that about data on any subject." No, some data is reliable, some has obvious inherent flaws, and some data really needs close scrutiny. Imagine that you poll guys to ask how long their dick is; do you think wienies are going to candidl report that they have 3½"? Or, imagine that you go to a porn studio to poll guys on how long their rod is; do you think those numbers will be representatve of the general population. "If you just assume that all polls and data are false then how else are we supposed to get information about certain topics?" I don't assume that ALL polls are false, and I certainly don't assume all data is incorrect. But I have seen well documented reports of political pollsters oversampling in areas that are pedominately young and left-leaning to get poll results that favor the left, because the MSM knows that some people look to polls for guidance as they want to vote for the eventual winner. It is also reported that Republicans are less likely to answer pollsters questions because of the popular bias against conservatives. Do you know where Gallup did their survey? San Francisco or Key West? Or Omaha? Makes a big difference. How did they determine whether people are homosexual, lesbian, or other? By just asking them? Why would you assume that everyone answering the poll is being honest? Who paid to have the poll conducted? There are societal institutions that want polling data to back up their insistence that LGBTQ should be normalized. WIth all of the potential biases and inaccuracies in polling, they should not be regarded as an arbiter of the truth.

    • My point still stands. even if a poll came from a more reliable source, there is absolutely NO way to know if everyone questioned was telling the truth or if they only surveyed people from a certain area, etc. This is still something you can say about ANY consensus. It seems like you just don’t want to believe the data comes from a reliable source because it’s a topic that you don’t personally agree with. I’m sure if someone were to post poll results about a more conservative topic, you wouldn’t be arguing that “polls aren’t always accurate”

  • There were a lot of people in my high school that identified as bisexual or gay/lesbian years ago because it was different and edgy… most ended up in heterosexual relationships. I think this is a phase that many are going through because it’s the new, hip thing to be right now.

The sad part are the young and underage kids going on cross sex hormones and blockers that are not going to be able to have a normal relationship or children when they get older.

  • I think it's a positive thing. It shows that more and more people are becoming comfortable in their sexual identity

    • I would agree entirely! I thought all of the statistics were fascinating dont you? :)

    • What do you think has had the most influence on people being comfortable with their sexual identity?

  • That’s great, the number is probably getting closer to accurate now. My guess is it’s not increasing. It’s just more honest

  • Mostly negative, it shows that society effect on how many people are queer and abnormal.

  • Its just a thing.

Its good, people are now more open about it, without being afraid of negative impacts.

  • I think it’s a positive thing. It’s not that it’s more common to be gay nowadays but it’s just way more accepted so people aren’t as ashamed to come out.

  • In all honesty if your sexuality doesn’t effect me why is it my business? As long as you’re a good person I won’t think less of it. I do get uncomfortable when transgender people are very expressive about it, I won’t lie.
