My 13 year old cousin is sexually active?

She told me not to tell her mum but I'm not sure, she is so young should I tell her mum or what should I tell her? What age did you first have sex?

  • Of course it's a child protection matter

  • Yes, she is too young for sex tell her mom to stop her

  • Don't tell her mom, let her trust you. Do not shame her, just answer her questions with honest answers. Try to teach her to be safe. The toothpaste is already out of the tube.

  • Why you are telling here

  • You should probably tell her mother. As the person your cousin is having sex with is likely an adult taking advantage of her.

  • 13 but not sex just jerking off

  • I think that's a common age to start. Even if you search this site, some questions on what age people started having sex, a lot of women especially say 12-13. Amazing isn't it? I think if it were me, I'd talk to your cousin about sex, being safe, etc. She came to you, so that's great she's telling someone and if you didn't want to ruin that, you could be like her mother in this case. The fear is if you tell her mother, then she'll feel betrayed, and not only will she not talk to you or her mother, but the behavior will continue and maybe get worse (defiance). But if you act like a trusted friend, you can advise her and help her. And depending on the mother, you could mention it if you think she could know and not confront her daughter?

    • OR... if the mother could act like an "adult" with the knowledge and instead of "punishing" her or lecturing her (which will cause the opposite of what she wants), calmly talked to her daughter about it and the risks etc. That's the smart thing and way to handle it I think.
