Go with it, or talk with him. Explain that you understand his love, and desire to be close, and that it's admirable, and that he's not smothering you, but that is weird to be watched with such intensity.

I'm not sure as to what it means, but if it makes you feel uncomfortable or bothers you in any way than maybe you should talk about it. You may need to find some healthy boundaries to put into place.
