Literacy is important, it helps people communicate. Dyslexia, while troublesome, does not stop you from correcting spelling mistakes before or after hitting send, especially in an age where every device has built in autocorrect, a dictionary, and search engines. In cases where a person spaces it and forgets, or simply doesn't notice an error, it is helpful for someone else to note the correction. Not everyone knows how to spell everything, and while not worth poking fun of, it's constructive to note correct spelling for future posts.

Being helpful does not automatically mean "helpful to what you want". It can, but other times, it's helpful in preventing the meanings or spellings of words from changing. If no one corrects mistakes, others repeat them, thinking they are already correct, and you get "dialects". I personally hate dialects.
