Police arrive at your door and ask about porn?

So you have been watching porn at home, and obviously have been keeping it a secret from your family.

One day there is a knock at the door, you open it and it's the police. Your partner / parents also come to the door to see what the issue is. They say " hi there sir, we have been monitoring the Internet activity in this house hold and have found someone here has been watching some pirated porn videos. As you know watching pirated videos is in breach of copyright law, we are now going to conduct a search of your electronic devices. Here is the search warrant. Anything anyone wants to say before we being the search? "

What would you do?

  • I would tell them that watching porn is not against the law and if the creator of the videos that have been pirated can prove you watched them, their remedy is to sue you in civil, not criminal court for monetary damages. It's not something local police would ever get involved with or arrest someone for. And even if it was a crime, the police aren't going to monitor a house's internet use without probable cause which they wouldn't have had until they knew you were watching the videos which they couldn't have known without monitoring the house in the first place. So unlike your other covid scenario, it's totally unrealistic. If you're going to make up stuff, at least make it somewhat plausible. This was just silly.

    • The isp were informed by the police and they came for the search

    • You're not hearing me. Copyright infringement is a civil matter not a criminal matter. THE POLICE WOULD NOT BE INVOLVED. What part of that are you not able to understand. Total fail dude.

    • This is a what if question dude, I don't see why you don't understand. Chill dude.

  • First of all, it is not illegal to view copyrighted AV. It is illegal to possess it.
The scenario is flawed in that local police do not enforce copyright law. For the sake of discussion, lets say the files in question are underage adolescents, reported by an ISP.
I keep zero files on any device. The ISP may have a record of a download and my device history (which I clear) may indicate that but any files I possess are stored on USB drives that will not be found. So it would appear that I downloaded, viewed and deleted them. Without possession, there is no case.

    • What if they did a full search and found the USB drives. Then what?

    • It's simple. They wouldn't. No prospect of that.

    • Why wouldn't they find them? Obviously you hide in your house? What if they used xrays or electronic detectors to sear3the while house?

  • Say you watch porn but weren't aware anything you viewed wasn't in the public domain.

  • Wait a minute you the same guy who asked about the corona question

I'm feeling you making scenarios up now

    • Yes. Of course it's made up. It's a what would you do if question

    • I love that show "what would you do" You need tk make an account so i can follow your interesting questions

  • Well, this would never happen, not due to "pirated" porn; it would only happen possibly, I guess? maybe? due to watching porn with underaged people in it, I think. But anyway, pretty simple-- you don't say anything. They're going to do what they want if they have a signed warrant, so stay out of their way, don't answer any questions, and find an attorney.

    • Say you were watching some video of a 17 year old a week before her birthday. And they found out you knew her age as you went to the same school and were her friend

    • The answer doesn't change.

    • Then the case went to court and then you found all the media got involved and shoving mics in your face asking " is it true you knew her age yet watched the porn?"

  • Laugh.

I use tor browser and all my porn is on an encrypted harddrive using veracrypt

    • What if they ask you to open the hard drive so you can check?

    • Well I don’t have to give them access to shit. But there is a two layer encryption in veracrypt. The real drive has most of my stuff on it and them there is a fake drive over top of that where I put some basic porn. If I was tortured and made to give up my password. I would have them unencrypt the false drive and act like that’s it. If they say they know veracrypt and want access to the second level, I would pretend I have no idea what they are talking about and there is no way to prove otherwise.

    • So what kind of porn do you have that you need to have 2 layers of encryption, and also having a decoy "basic" porn?

  • "I only watch porn that I believe is for public consumption and all the performers are of age."

    • How would you tell the difference between a 17 and 18 year old?

    • I rely on the sites I frequent to do the vetting for me. Most of them are pretty big and don't want to get shut down for hosting illegal content. Because otherwise I wouldn't be able to tell.
